so i bought a cheapo telecaster and i want to replace the neck pickups with a brown sugar one and then put a humbucker in it. i was thinking miracle man humbucker put would it drown out the sugar?
-
It will probably not drown out the Brown Sugar. However, what wood is the tele made out of?! The Miracle Man might sound too bright for your tastes.
I'm putting together a telecaster style guitar right now, and I'm using a VHII in the bridge with a Trilogy Suite in the neck.
-
It's maple with a maple fret board though i might change the neck and go for a mahogany nech with a rose wood finger board. the fact that its maple will probably make it too bright so i was also thinking of a Swinehead condor, cos i like its thick tone.
I guess the tone i'm looking for would be a thick creamy sound with an awsome uperend cut when the distortion is kicked on. and its got to carry pinchharmonics well, and i know humbuckers are best for this.
-
well dude im sorry to say it on this site but swinesheads are great pickups for the money....
-
Ok then my plan is to by a Brown sugar neck pickup and a (flame shield up just incase) Swinehead Condor or Runaway or Warthog depending on which can carry pinches better. but i got a few days (5-16) too make up my mind and allow funds to roll in.

That may be true, but how many BKs do you own to compare them against?
Looking at your profile and tracking down your posts, it looks like you don't own any BKs.
Ultimately, you get what you pay for ...
-
god twilight what a little bitch you are! no i dont own any bareknuckles, did i say that i did ermmmm no so either you have an eye problem or an attitude one, what did i say "swinesheads are great pickups for the money...." which they are.... are you arguing that point? no? well then dont be such an idiot, did i say bareknuckles are cr@p? no because they are great pickups too, just chill out man places like these really dont need people like you if all you can do is get at what people say....
-

Very true.
At present i have yet to play any non-bkp loaded guitar that sounds nicer than and bkp loaded guitar, but then everybodys ears are different, it's fun down at my local guitar shop though, they don't let you buy Semour Suncans unless you've at;east tried BKP's :-)
-
sounds like a great guitar store.
now if you ladies have finished arguing then could you please answer my question on which humbucker give a good thick creamy tone and blah blah blah...

I would argue that you don't if you try to buy SD's or DM's this side of the pond, lol.
and you're putting together a tele? that sounds like heresy!
(kidding, I love teles)
EDIT: ^ ^ heh, I doubt my local stores have even heard of BKP's...

Sorry, I'm confused. You're getting a Swineshead and still want a BK recommendation, or are you on the fence?
Either way, as I said, the MM might be a bit bright; depends on your playing style and how much attack you like. I think a MM or a Holy Diver will work just fine. The Holy Diver is darker sounding, not as bright on the high freqs.

^ i think he means that he's going with a swiney bridge pickup and BKP neck tele pickup?
-
dude to be honest it all comes to how much money you have got to spend, if youve got enough for bareknuckles then definatly get bareknuckles
-
^ yeah, I think that's the basic gist of the argument. I remember this argument happened one other time, eventually steve mr pig turned up and said (correctly, IMO) that neither company is really in competition with each other. Swineys are great pickups on the cheap (my opinion, and nicer than SD or DM (my opinion again)), while BKP are pretty much the ultimate if you have the cash. It's not really comparing like with like, and it's not fair to do so.
:drink:
-
yeah i am putting a BKP in the neck but my question is, is there a nice thick sounding humbucker for the bridge by BKP? cos the warthog by swine sound really nice but if theres a BKP version i'll get it.

I own BKs and swinseheads.
Swinseheads sound great.
Edit: and I trusted my ears, not my wallet, on that ;)
-
I looked up the warthog and listened to the clip.
I think the closest equivalent BKP would be the Cold Sweat, even though it has a different magnet.

Then your opinion is fully informed! Thanx for the extra info!!

I think and believe that the swine will still give me a sound as good as EMG's and there what the professionals use. and there is deffinetly a complete lack of sound clips on this website...

Uhmm........check out the players section of this forum.
-
i have done but the point remains that theres not alot and why cant they be found along with the information of them on one web page?
-
Love it how some of the 'unknown' names on the forum come along and do a little bit of BKP bashing.
oh, Miracle Man is great for metal btw, you'll love it.
Andy!

Theres loads in the Players forum :?
Whenever the new site is launched there will be "proper" clips done by Tim for every pickup I think.
-
^ Yes.
-
good
-
Lets not make a new bandwagon here. They have a point. Most of the clips posted are from people on the internet. Everyone has completely different hardware, so the clips in the players forum are not really good for comparing pickups to each other. The best kind of clips are what SD does. All the humbuckers are recorded with the same amp, same guitar, same program, and with the same settings. You can actually compare pickups.
Some of the clips posted obviously are made with cheap equipment and I don't understand how anyone could get and idea of what BKP's sound like with them. They sound like samples from SD or EMG.
We need more clips like what Steve Stevens made. Those clips kick ass. You can hear everything. Nothing muffled.
-
yeah i agree also he generally uses a variaty(sp?) of techniques not just regular soloing.

I think everyone -- including the BKP guys -- are likely to agree with this. But BKP is just a little company with just a few dudes working there, and there just hasn't been the resource to turn out loads of awesome pickups and update the web site (something which has been promised for a long time!).
We'll just have to keep holding our collective breath a little longer ....
-
i have no job and i make all sort of electronics and guiatrs and i'm very arty... maybe they should hire me
-
In my opinion, the SD clips suck. I cant tell the difference between any of the models really, they all sound pretty similar.
Dimarzio and Bareknuckle have clips of their pickups being used in the context in which they are most likely to be used, which helps more than the SD clips, I find.
-
yeah that makes sence all the SD's sound very average i find the best in order of what ive heard (dont own a set of BKP) is:
5.SD
4.DM
3.EMG
2.SWH
1.BKP
although DM and EMG are pretty much the same.
