Title: Apache versus Fender 57/62
Post by: asimmd on February 22, 2007, 07:23:27 PM
Hi All
Just joined so this is my first post.

As the title suggests,I have a set of Fender 57/62's in my Custom Shop  NOS56 Strat and I have been reading the posts about the Apache's.

Can anyone tell me how they will sound compared to my 57/62's.

I have listened to a few demo's on the site, but would welcome some first hand views please.

Many thanks

Alan

Hi, I can't compare them with what you have I am sorry but love them each time Iplay. That in itself is not a lot of help and doesn't answer your question but welcome to the forum in any event.

Hi asimmd. It may not be much help but I changed a set of fender custom shop 54th on my 50th anniversary for a set of Apaches , stock wound on the second and fourth position . The Apaches made the guitar a more interesting instrument .They're of a very different complexity compared to the 54s. Way more fun.

I've tried 57/62s, I liked them - they sound sweet and authentic.

But compared to Apaches - 57/62s are Alnico V, Apaches are Alnico III - the k rating is about the same.  The sound difference is that the Apaches are more defined, warmer and somehow more 'vintage' in sound (probably because the A III magnet is weaker so it sounds 'aged').
