Ive just done a burnt single coil cover!! it looks like a mix between the normal burnt chrome and the oil one but i cant take a pic yet cos its too dark and the flash sucks so pics up tomorrow.
-
do you not own a light?
you can't keep us in suspence now....
-
yes i do own a light but after about 5 o' clock unless it super bright outside my camera decide to turn off. although i shall see what i can do...
-
can you tell me how you burned this? ive been trying to give my chrome hardware on my flying V a distressed look myself.
-
Umm... so it's a... Solar camera??? :?
-
Haahahaha solar camera -yeah- no i think it might be french  i dont know why, it just decides to decrease greatly in resulation after mid-day, quite anoying.
and how i did it?
well you first got to make sure theres no wac or glue on the inside cos that explodes... then you grab a pair of RUBBER ended plyers, dunk it in methelated spirit
then I held it over the most powerful nob on my gas cooker and got a small chefs blow torch on it till it was red hot all over then i dunked it in water.
Now the important thing to remember is to not get too greedy with the colour cos if you get it red hot too many times it becomes almost like a relic burnt chrome effect, which is how mine ended up.
in precisely 2-3 hours time i'll have a photo for you, cos its still not bright anough yet.

the last one is my next project but i cant work out how to make it work :?

Great job on that burned cover.
I could use that gadget you're working on. :D
-
thanks i'm gonna buy some more cover and try with other spirits... and maybe beer
-
HAHAHA I love the knob levels and categories on your pedal. Hilarious. Wank has to be the best setting I think. That single coil looks cool too.
-
Great job dude, on the pedal especially !!
-
Different spirits won't make a difference. The colour change is caused but the heat re-arranging the molecular structure of the metal. The Meth's you put on it would have burnt off in an instant.

it's a bit of a bugger you can only do it with tele style single coils and MQs. It's got to be possible to get hold of a metal soapbar casing...

there is a chrome soapbar cover, matt bellamy has it on one of his guitars

cool single!!!!
hahahahahaha awesome pedal!
-
Mwuahahhaa - awesome job! - I bet you could run a brisk business with those pedals. Coolest thing to give a bandmate for their birthday for miles around!

The standard chrome P90 cover wont work - its plastic underneath - will melt
I have tried heating chrome up with a blow torch - wont work

Well i originally asked Tim bout it and he said that its impossible, But me being deluded that i can go against the laws of physics, gave it a go.
its a regular chrome cover, and although it had wax on the inside that exploded, it still worked and it was very plasticy before hand (sp?).
My advice is to give it a go and see, maybe if you heat it slowly it will give a different effect to heating it fast i dont know but dont stick with theoretical knowlege. Remember in theory hand wound pickups shouldn't sound better then precision machine ones! but they do!
