Title: New "Dio Sabbath" track streaming
Post by: carlaz on February 28, 2007, 04:21:04 PM
So Iommi's web site links to streams (QT/WM/RP) of the first new track from the reunion of the Mob Rules lineup: http://www.iommi.com/iommi_frames.htm

It's a stream, so the audio is pretty cruddy sounding.  As for the song, it seems "OK" though not knocking my socks off. The first single from the last Iommi solo album did just about knock my socks off, but it was a much faster track, so I suppose it was easier to knock my socks off with a bit velocity.

Still, good on the ol' lads.  And the new track is just one of three, apparently the "mid-tempo" one; the other two will be a fast one and a slow, doomy one.

SECOND ROW ORCHESTRA!!!

B@st@rd.    Right, we expect full details! :D

I'm still hoping they cough up a few regular gigs in the UK, not just huge festivals.  I think they'll get here after the main summer festival season, though, so with luck my hope will pan out!

+1

I hardly ever go to gigs nowadays, but I might dust off the old embroidered denim jacket for that one.

(Kidding about dusting off the jacket.  But I do still have it somewhere.)

Nice to hear Dio and Iommi together again. Tony is the Riffmeister.

Sounds alright, I didn't think Dio would still have a good voice but i have been proved wrong. The only thing i don't like is that it's waaay too slow. I prefer Iommi with Ozzy.

Just listened to the track - it was like being back in 1980.  In a good way!  I was even younger than Joe and BM then...

Much better than anything on Dehumanizer, and Ronnie sounds great.

Funny that Iommi's site calls it a new Black Sabbath track.  Just an error I suppose.

;)  Hard to say, really.  The band is touring as "Heaven & Hell Live", but the new tracks are actually being released on the "Black Sabbath, The Dio Years" CD, so .....

Well, either way, heveryone's gonna think of the whole deal as "Black Sabbath" anyway.  Only matters if they play well live and any new tunes are good.  This one's OK, if unlikely to burn up the charts, and TO will let us know how they are live. :)

And, OK, the moderators on the iommi.com (http://iommimessageboard.invisionzone.com/) message board have just clarified this:

The Devil Cried is by Black Sabbath. It appears on the new Black Sabbath CD. Shadow Of The Wind and Ear In The Wall are also by Black Sabbath, as are all of the other songs on the CD Black Sabbath: The Dio Years. [...]

Tony owns the name Black Sabbath, the band could have toured as Black Sabbath if they had wanted to.
The reason they didn't was because Ronnie is not replacing Ozzy as the singer in Black Sabbath in the same way as he did first time round. Black Sabbath with Ozzy is not over, but Tony also felt the time was right to do some work with Ronnie again. With Black Sabbath fronted by Ozzy having toured in 2004 & 2005 it needed to be immediately clear from the name that this was not going to be an Ozzy fronted band.

So that's as close to the horse's mouth as we'll get on this, I think. Anyway, it seems that the new track is officially Black Sabbath, not just nudge-nudge-wink-wink-Black-Sabbath

'Course, IMO, whether Sabbath with Ozzy is "over" or not will remain to be seen.  I wouldn't put a lot of faith in statements coming from inside a part of the music industry that's as volatile as the Black Sabbath camp! ;) The whole she-bang could implode tomorrow as easily as not!

Cheers Carl.  All a bit complicated isn't it?  Still, it's the music that counts.  :)

We'll see what happens with Sabbath and Ozzy.  To be honest I've lost interest in the ol' Double-O after all the bloody reality TV shows and his entire family's rise to D-list celebrity status.  Still, I'd rather hear a new Sabbath album than another boring Ozzy one.

I'm hearing ya!.  :)

And, just for the record, Tony and Zakk should buy some BKPs!  8)
