but what exactly does the term "brown sound" mean? i know its EVH's tone but why is it called the brown sound?

I think that's what Eddie referred to it as.  A bit like Clapton and his "woman tone".

..."seeing" the sound...like attributing a "color" to a tone, is known as synesthesia(sp??)-I remember checking it out back in the ol' college Psych course-pretty cool ,trippy stuff...especially if you have ever tripped on 'shrooms....there are some teaching styles that are loosely based on this-I know it does work for me..if I hear a song in the key of A, for example, I can see red-it usually is right-yellow for C,etc
..but, I am a lefty...therefore, all F'd up

I watched that too. Very interesting. There are some people that can taste sounds too, like "wooo that sound tastes like a sausage!". I'd find a sound that tastes nice and put it on my mp3 player all day :lol:

when i drink beer it always tastes like colours.  lots of pretty colours!  most lagers taste green, beers like smithwicks have a kind of purple taste and guinness has a rich brown taste.  although a bad guinness is kinda beige. (yuk)
