Title: Noah'sark effects
Post by: gingataff on March 01, 2007, 03:03:39 AM
I've seen these knocking about for a while and never took much notice as I thought they were cheapo copies of famous effects, anyway it turns out that although they are pretty much copies of Tubescreamers, MXR Phase 90s etc, they are all true bypass and use high quality op-amps and tantalum caps etc.

I'm considering a few of them as they're about the same price as Boss pedals. I found some sound clips, they do seem a bit bright but I think the guy used a strat into a jcm900, and they're mp3s so thats no surprise.
The Japanese site (http://www.e-imi.jp/noahsark/noahsark-breaker/sound-file.php) has most clips but the Distortion M isn't labelled but does work, just click on the speakers. The  English site (http://www.bigsmusic.com/eng/item/item_01_04.php) is easier to understand but doesn't have the clips of the backing and the solo playing together.

I take it the yellow one is a copy of the origional SD-1?

I really like it... and it's price.

Even the tubescreamer sounds good, and so far i havent liked demo's of any tubscreamers.

I wonder how much it is in total... shipping+import duties in the uk...

You mean OD-1?

These stompboxes do look very good on spec and price. We now just have to wait for gingatuff to buy one and give us a review

I think the yellow is a OD-1 clone, the green is a Tubescreamer (but with a different op-amp, I can't find any mention of a TL082CP being used by anyone else), The Distortion M is a Marshall in a box pedal, maybe like a DS-1? and the Distortion B simulates a Boogie. The price is even better in the shops, about 7500 yen which according to xe.com is about 32quid!
But I've also got my eyes on a  MXR GT-OD (http://www.jimdunlop.com/index.php?page=products/pip&id=266) which is about 60 pounds, no reviews on the internet so I guess I just have to try it out sometime.

surprisingly all the experiences myself and friends who have bought mxr pedals haven't been good, and they have all been sold on
