I'm still thinking of ordering a set for my Les Paul Standard. It weighs 10.4lbs, and is therefore quite heavy and bassy - especially with the standard Gibbo pups.
Uncovered AND unpotted Mules should really brighten up the tone, and with them being BKPs it should have great clarity too.
Is anyone else using uncovered AND unpotted BKPs????

61 views and no replies? Guess no-one does then!
I'll drop the folks at BKP an email...

As far as i know the kind chaps at BKP compensate when winding pick ups with or with out covers to avoid a noticable tonal difference.
What music are you going to be playing on the Les Paul, because the information i've gathered from posts sudgests that Unpotted Mules are only really worth it if your going for a more vintage not so overdriven tone.
But... i could be wrong as i'm still a noob, this is just the impression i got

It's classic Les Paul wintage tone I'm after. It's the squeal issue I'm concerned about with uncovered and unpotted pickups. I'm curious to know if it's actually advisable or not...

I think i remember Tim saying that aslong as you wern't going for a high gain sound then microphonics wouldn't be an issue.
Don;t worry about microphonics-if you buy unpotted humbuckers from BKP they won't squeal.I've worked long and hard at looking at the problem of microphony and have found a way of stopping squealing even under extreme gain. I use 2 x 100w Marshall stacks in stereo and I play unpotteds in quite a few of my LPS-no problem!!

I think that was unpotted with covers though? I've had a reply from Tim:
No problem at all Dave. They won't squeal like mad-we do a little trick with wax potting the magnet-the coils though stay 100% unpotted for that lively, on the edge tone.
kind regards
Tim
Sounds good to me - unpotted, uncovered set will be ordered as soon as I can get some cash!

Clips, please! :D

I've just asked Tim if he can do an unpotted covered HB forgetting that he has one on one of his LPs.
I'm an idiot :(
However, this means that I could potentially have a really stupidly powerful Pup without microphony problems and play the most high-gain sound I can crank from my amp :D
Pig-90'bucker here I come!
