ok... so i was sitting at work today and came up with the following idea...
instead of soldering the pickups in, could you not run the wires through to the different parts of the guitar i.e. to the volume/tone pots and the p/up switch etc. and then crimp a bullet connector to the wires going into the p/up cavity, so that when you wanted to change the p/ups all you gotta do is crimp the wire on the p/up and bung it in....
is that possible or am i talking gibberish?

Well, you can always make a connector thingy...why not....EMG equipped guitars have that sometimes (always?) too!

Hey C Junk, I don't know that much about guitar electrics but I had a Kinman Nosolder kit a while back, which allowed you to screw the connection into place with a tiny screw. Check out:
