Each time I listen to my Strangers in the Night cd I want a vee, but I never really liked the look of the Gibson headstocks.. I just saw the ad for these on Harmony Central, they look so good and have a great headstock! I like the slight offset as well, subtle yet effective.

Are Reverend generally good quality? They're only $499!
I wont be able to afford one for some time but its something to consider for the future
-
dunno, they look pretty nice, and the mags say they're good, but that depends how much you trust the mags. They certainly look pretty nice on paper. Only thing I dislike (on paper) is the darn nut width (42mm). There's a conspiracy out against me, I swear.
EDIT: just in case it's not clear by this, I haven't tried them, so they could be awful for all I know.
-
see if you can find one, and play it, and tell us how it is.... I love wierd lookin guitars....

I think you need a V shaped headstock to harmonise with the body shape, but each to his own.
Obsessed with customising as I am, I think it's a bit weird that the controls are on the scratchplate but the switch is on the body. That'll make rewiring a nightmare, unless the scratchchplate's only cosmetic and there's a rear cavity.
Still, nice looking guitar. I like the hint of Firebird with the raised centre section.
-
Hmm yeah it might make it a bit of a bitch to re-wire, cant be that bad though.. I cant find these anywhere in the UK to buy :( Dolphin Music stock Reverend but not the V's. Guess its kinda a good thing in the way, because it'll stop me spending all my money  And yes, I think the raised middle looks really good.
-
that looks cool...... except for the headstock, which just doesn't fit in in my book.
-
to be honest, I'm not all that fussed on the V, I'm with philly on the headstock front- but several of the other reverends look pretty nice.
-
I guess I'm the only one who likes the headstock then  Theres something about the proper gibson one.. it just somehow makes the guitar look like a toy to me, thats the best I can describe it, weird I know.
-
i'm not saying this headstock is bad, it just looks completely out of place to me.

This ain't no toy!

hmm very true, it actually looks perfect there.. I think I may like it after all  Whenever I think of it in my head it seems to be wider and rounder than it actually is, weird I know :?

Well, the V headstock shape has varied a LOT over the years. Schenker's guitar in that picture is a 1975. The current Gibson V headstock is a bit longer and pointier, like a mid/late 1960s model.
-
Ah I see, I didnt know that. So was it just 60s and 70s that had the thinner, pointier headstocks?
The one I'm thinking of is kinda short and stubby, which doesnt look very good imho. Planning the next guitar purchase allready and I havent even finished upgrading my Charvel yet
-
The original '58 V headstock was quite wide and pointed, the '60s ones were a little narrower with a very elongated point.
Then in the 70s they got smaller and more rounded. The most rounded of all were the early '80s V2 models, which I must agree are pretty ugly!
The current Gibson "V-Factor" is pretty close to '67 spec.
-
Just looked up that V-Factor:

Nice!

I don't really like the V but i do think it is far better than the Jackson and BC Rich distortions of the concept. It is ridiculously easy to build - so no real craftsmanship is involved, It has poor upper fret access because of the neck joint and it dives like an ordinance bomb. Sitting for me is fine because you can put the lower leg between your legs so that the neck tilts upwards.
With a few modifications though it can become a KICK ASS guitar:
Through neck
The wings moved down so that they don't get in the way
24 fret
Floyd
Roller knobs
Caparison style headstock
Holoflash finish
Maple fretboard
satin neck
BKPs
-
Caparison style headstock?! Even worse than the chunky v ones! I wouldnt want a floyd either, too much hassle and I'd never really use it.
-
HOW DARE YOU insult Caparison Headstocks!
They're the coolest and smoothest looking headstocks in existance!
-
They look like a pixies boot, and a very gay pixies boot at that!

i agree, but they too only go with certain body shapes..... and unsurprisingly, they go best with Caparison body shapes!
-
True that it wouldn't look great on a V, but saying it suits a Caparison shape is a bit silly xD
It's just a standard super strat shape xD

you got me there.
restatement:
looks great with a super strat shape :P

My favourite V at the moment is the Greco Zemaitis V, really tasty but unfortunately Kanda Shokai have the clunkiest website so finding a picture to share with you has so far been impossible.
Doh! just found a pic http://www.two-five.net/newlist.html#gzv

Just did a quick one - doesnt look too bad (better than the "proper" razorback in my opinion):

-
Give that a through neck and a nice finish - would be ace.
-
yeah, that looks very good, although the angle on the biggest point is slightly too acute for an explorer. can you use your IMMENSE PS skills to change that? i basically want a standard Explorer shape, just looking like a razorback......
-
If you wanted that to look more "Explorer"-like then try splitting the headstock so it'd be like a pointy take on the classic banana style.
But blimey, that's a brilliant mockup! You should seriously send that off to Dean. I'd put a lot of money on him making it.

nooooo you need the V headstock...... although you can always experiment
but seriously, try the standard Explorer proportions, _tom_, for me :D
pleeeeeeeaaaaase!
thanks
-
Ok, hows this? btw I'm by no means a photoshop expert, I'm really sloppy at it compared to what some people can do with it
added a background for coolness
-
NAILED IT!!!!!!!! wow, now i can't wait to get hold of one, despite how long it will take me to get the money and the waiting list :D oh yeah an finding the right custom builder.......
thanks dude, love the background too. it looks great!
edit: wow, also saw that you've done a fixed bridge!!!! perfect!!!!
-
it does look pretty good, preferred it with the gibson style headstock though to be honest, I've never liked dean 'stocks :P
-
That Razorback Explorer (or should I say Z) looks killer.
Would be nice in that two tone finish that they do along with amber knobs and that V style bridge.
Seriously, you should send that pic to Dean.
-
Cheers, I'll send it in a minute :) I dont know what to put in the message though?!
-
Check out this topic on the Dean Forum. Plenty of fotoshopping.
