Title: First gig with the Stormies.
Post by: jockman on March 11, 2007, 12:39:15 PM: I never had a chance to try the new pups anywhere except at home, so, no high volume, they sounded very 'clear' and balanced at this volume. I had the Rio grande set in my guitar for around 2 years, and as we all know, new pickups can be a bit of an anxious time.
Anyway, gig on Friday, pretty nervous, the Stormie's were awesome, I have to say, they have a 'similar' character as the Rios, but, much clearer sounding, the bass is very well balanced, and the treble, while slightly more pronounced than the rio is very sweet, I only had to make a little adjustment to the amp. They worked brilliantly with my pedals, and, because they sounded so good, I played better, hence, a great gig.
I am VERY happy. All I need to do now, is work on the pickup height, at the moment, the neck is slightly louder than the bridge, I will enjoy experimenting.

Post by: HTH AMPS on March 11, 2007, 02:33:53 PM: from the reviews it sounds like the SMs would be alot like the SD Antiquities (?) while the Mules would be more like Seth Lovers. All very nice PAF types imo.

Mules are next on my list - love the Crawlers I've got but my heart is with PAFs really.

My amp is an old Carlsbro 50top 1x12 combo, It has a pair of GEC KT66's in there, stunning valves, pedals are a keeley BD2 and a MI Audio blue boy deluxe, I 'think' I have found my perfect setup. :wink:

I have had Seths in my guitar, and the BKP's leave them for dead.
The seths are in my opinion, harsh sounding. The Antiquities, can't comment, but, from what I gather, they are potted seths.

Post by: HTH AMPS on March 11, 2007, 06:20:28 PM: the Antiquities are not potted either, they're different to the Seths (had 'em both) - the Seths are louder and hotter. Never thought the Seths were harsh though - the bass was a bit loose but they had that old ZZ Top vibe to 'em.

I'm a fan of BKPs since trying 'em though - they've ALL been nice and sound different to eachother (many Duncan pickups tend to sound very similar)
