dude i don't mean to disrespect you in any way.... but that thing looks like ass, who did it? is it finished?.... you just cant really tell what it is and theres no real detail to it if you know what i mean....

like compared to mine, which like has quite clear detail....

and this one,  though this is a cover up as i got something from a different shop and at first i thought yeah im tattood but then realised they were utter shite.... so i found my shop now and they sorted them out and now i love 'em

but hey if you like the thing then thats cool, im just saying

F*ck me!

That has to be one of the nastiest posts I have seen on this forum and I hope you feel good about yourself..

If you are so proud of your "art" keep it to yourself.

The only thing that impresses me about you is your total lack of class and even if you are "joking" I could give a sh1t as you failed to take care and make that apparent.

I've really never responded in such a way as I have to your post so hey... feel good about yourself over that too... assh0le.

whoaaaaaaaaaaaaa holy sh*t dude, whats with the anger, calm it down brother, i wasnt being an asshole in any way possible.... all i said was that the tattoo just isnt clear and detailed.... i'm not putting the dude down at all and certainly wasnt being nasty.... i like the dude he seems cool....

I know my response was hard but I know how emotional you can get when you have done something permanent.

The last thing that you need is criticism as it won't help but can hurt.

Water under the bridge.

Thanks for responding.

Post by: metal_god on March 13, 2007, 03:03:48 PM
well yeah i guess but i was only being constructive even though something is permanent it doesnt mean it cant be tweaked to look better.... like comparing it to these you see what i mean

see the amount of detail in this even though its not finished is awesome

the second picture would be a sh*t hot design, would look great as a tattoo

#1
it's a 8x15 cm tattoo.. you cant get the same ammount of detail in it as on a fullsize back tattoo

#2
the pictures were taken 3 hours after the tattoo was done, so everything looks like mush.. you should know that, that the tattoo has to heal first and some of the colour will fade.

#3 i'll get it tweaked, once its healed and you can see more of the detail, and if it needs to be touched up and add more flames to it. now the color is just filler

For that reason I wont get a tattoo and instead will just have it printed on a t-shirt or painted on a jacket (or even a guitar)
Then I can change my mind without regrets - just change my clothes or play another axe.

naw, i'm pretty laid back. my patience is close to being legendary (you dont want to be close when it wears out though)
i know it looks undefined. and even more so in the pic with the cr@ppy lightning. the one with the flash is undefined too, cos at a distance, everything is still black. up close you can see which lines will be crisp and stick out though and which will fade, to leave the shading behind.

also, i think i'll have more colour added too. just have to figure out in what way. i dont want the whole thing coloured

I have to say that I wasn't sure what it was in the photos

However I also know that many tats look pretty indistinct (or just plain bad) until a bit of healing takes place. some of the worst looking pieces I have seen (straight after the work is done) have actually been the best once things tave tidyed themselves up.

From a personal viewpoint I only have one (smallish) tattoo and it took me a year to decide on the artwork and tatooist, simply for many of the reasons that Jonathan described.

Post by: Davey on March 13, 2007, 05:55:24 PM
well.. this one took me .. close to 8 years now. i always wanted a tattoo, but i didnt want something that would just be a fashion accessory you know (like most people do it today. $%&# those ass tats and the butterflies and whatevers (tribal and chinese letters anyone?)
i wanted something that had some meaning for me. i looked into norse runes and things like that, majorly cool stuff on its own to research and read about., but nothing did it for me. so keeping in the vein of mythology and my general attitude, i thought, why not a phoenix, so i started looking at pics and tats, but none were like i wanted them (either too cliche or bad drawings and things like that) after i found this drawing, i knew i wanted this one, so i got in touch with an artist here, that did some cool stuff and he said that it's no problem

we talked about how to pull it off how much shading, which parts should be pronounced. at first he didnt want to add any coloring to it, cos it looked great on its own, but once he started with the red and yellow, he said after it heals to come by and he'll add more free of charge, cos it looked freakin badass :D

Can't wait to see it when it's finished!

The last tat I got wore me out. I got a tat on my back with my daughter's name. I sat there for over 4 hours. It's all black and gray work. The black really wore me out.

If ya want to check it out I'll pm ya a pic. I don't want to hijack your thread.

post away :D

this took a little more than an hour. thats probably why it didnt hurt (and that i dont have most of my nerves in my chest, due to a boiling vanilla pudding accident nearly 20 years ago)

if it took longer, it would probably hurt more after a while

Cool!!!

Vanilli not cool!

I pondered this tat for a while cause I didn't want a basic tat with my daughter's name. So, I combined 2 things that I love the most and came up with this idea. Pic was taken right after he was finished.

This pic will give you an idea of the size of it. I tried to get it close to the actual size.

Anything involving burns isn't funny (my wife spent 4 months in hospital after pulling a pot of tea over herself aged 4). Though in saying that my Dad burning his eye is a quite funny story (becasue there was no permanant damage)

As for the tattoo I know the feeling about choosing, I wanted to choose something that some meaning to me. In my case I went for the 'all seeing eye' as featured on the US dollar bill, due to several of it's supposed meanings. Funny thing was that 2 tattoo studios refused to consider doing it as it may have caused isses with the local masonic lodges. The studio which I used actually asked if they could the atrwork I supplied. I guess I should have asked for royalities !

BTW hows the healing going ?

I like tattoo's when they are done well, botched or badly inked ones just look cr@p & make me understand why people don't like them. I've got 2 myself, my sons name in japenese & a celtic-esq sun (which I'm gonna have filled at some pooint with another design. I'm also toying with the idea of having one just below my neckline on my back.

There have been designs that I have liked a lot  and related to things that i was passionate about at the time and some of the design ideas have endured, but for myself i am glad i resisted the urge- even though many of my friends have ink

A few of those designs have been (and remember I am an 80s rock child)

A rose like Paul Stanley of Kiss has
The Queensryche logo
The Feline catseye logo - now 19 years old
The stiletto heel boot logo that I have on one of my guitars

I am sure there are more.............

I agree, sort of.  I am impressed by tattooing as an art form, and sometimes it looks amazing when people have really gone for it and got full "sleeves" etc.  But I don't like it when you see people who have one smudgy little blue tattoo on their forearm or ankle or something.  Or "Love/Hate" on their knuckles, FFS.

I did think about getting tattooed years ago when I first got my hair cut short, because I suddenly felt very "conventional" and I guess I wanted to react against that feeling and do something "different".  But I never got round to it, and now I'm glad I didn't.

And I could never really think of any design that was so important to me that I wanted it permanently inked on my body.  I'd have been doing it for the sake of it, unlike Davey who's obviously thought about this long and hard.

The thing is, your outlook on many things does change as you get older.  Some people see tattoos as reminders of certain points in their life, and are happy with that; I think I'd see it more as an unwelcome "tie" with the past.  I'm just not a "no regrets" kind of person, I suppose.

I'm the opposite, think that tatoos are only nice in moderation, and when somebody gets full sleves or something done, It's way too much.

Wouldn't mind a smallish one on my shoulder or torso, but would never go for anywhere super viewable - Specially since after a year of one you're bound to be bored of it.

I still want a tattoo but I keep spending the money for it on guitar stuff.

I'd like something like this but with less dramatic shading.

808 that headstock tattoo looks cool.

I am after something guitar related and i have a really cool idea, but i aint gonna share that one till its done.

here is my first ever tattoo that i had done last year in september, its a work in progress and will be a full arm peice at some point - but not lillies all the way up the arm, i am still trying to decide what will blend nicely with the lillies.  the original idea was large stars over the top blending into lillies on the bottom but i might go a little more complex than that now!

This is a pic the day after it was done,;

Just a general question (not insulting) why did you get it done on your chest, like why not the back or arm or something?

And Feline you should get the Feline catseye logo on you, that would be cool.
Title: got ink done!
Post by: Davey on March 14, 2007, 05:49:46 PM
i wont get a tat on the back out of one simple reason.

i want to see it. it's pointless for me to have one on my back, if i cant look at it. that's just me though

why on the chest and not the arm.. i think the arm is a bit of a cliche, to have a tatoo on (even more so the first one) and i think this one fits better on the chest than on the arm :)

here it is, two days after.. took a pic after i got out of the shower and toweled it off a little.

the detail is starting to show a bit better

i suck at taking pics
