Title: Return to the studio for SOLOS
Post by: TwilightOdyssey on March 15, 2007, 12:30:49 PM
My band returned to Spin Music last night (less the singer) to track the solos, synths, and additional percussion. It took about 4 hrs to do all of the necessary work.

All of the synths were played live using a Roland FC-200/GR-30 combination. I played the synths like Oberheim or Taurus pedals.

All of the solos were complete takes (no comping) using my Splawn Quick Rod, 3rd Gear, OD1. I used a bridge Miracle Man for all my solos; Jimmy used a neck Abraxis for his.

Jimmy's reaction to my synth playing:

4 hours is not very long for these many instruments.

How many songs leads/synths did you finish in this time?

You look quite exhausted though, so probably it were INTENSE 4 hrs  :o

You're right; it was a very tight schedule, as the budget is equally tight. The key is being totally prepared and not losing your focus. A total of 7 solos were tracked, with minor synths for all 3 tracks.

^ Yep, Yoshi was used on all the rhythm and melody lines. This way Jimmy and I were both using the Cold Sweat (See my thread on the pickup's affect on overall tone in the Pickups forum). You can see Yoshi making a sneak appearance here:

For soloing, I had to go Miracle Man!!

BTW, hunter ... very soon you will see the new addition to my arsenal: CRISS!!

Is that one of the ESP Lynch signatures or a faithful remake?

^ Limited Edition ESP Kamikaze 4, which I replaced the neck, bridge, and pickups on to make it closer to the original Kamikaze that Lynch debuted in '85-86. I still have the original neck and hardware, but it looks better, sounds better, and rocks harder now. (Miracle Man > Screamin Demon by about 1M%)

Plus, if I drop it now, I'm not worried about breaking the neck. PDT_008

Interesting stuff Ben-I like the way that you and Jimmy used bridge and neck pups respectively.Nothing better than spending time in a studio.

You really can't get further apart as far as soloing, than Jimmy and me. A friend of mine said we're like X and Y lol.

Pretty cool pics man, can't wait to hear the tracks themselves.  :D

Those studios actually look properly professional commercial studios unlike the holes we get over here

You don't look too happy in that first pic, it's like you just squeezed one out or something  :P

Check some Daft Punk out for synth solos they are just phenominal, like: Digital Love, or Aerodynamic.

If you've got a video camera I'm sure everyone would appreciate seeing that the next time you go to the studio

that's what I was going to say, that's pretty good going...

Plus, nice work on co-ordinating your sleeves with the guitar.  :D

^ if you had a green t-shirt over that longer sleeved t-shirt, that'd really rule...

but it was uncanny how close the sleeves were, lol- exactly the same shade!

Here you go posting 'FAKE' pics of your rig again!

We all know you actually record with a Cort Strat copy, with stock pickups into a solid state Randall combo
