Title: Faded gold hardware
Post by: Ratrod on July 07, 2005, 04:29:49 PM
I'm still working on the details of my Yamaha SG400. Here's the problem:

The hardware is gold coloured, it's not real, it's chrome with a transparent yellow coating, like Epiphones. Most of the gold color has faded away. I have tried to polish off the remains of the gold coating wich helped a little bit, but it still has a goldish glow. Is there any way, maybe some kind of chemical, that will take all that coating off without damaging the chrome?

Or, is there an aftermarket coating available wich will restore the hardware to it's former golden glory?

pretty sure a decent  'proper' jewellers (probably not H Samuels lol) could re plate it, id imagine itd be like plating a watch\ring\tankard etc.

ask around your local shops :)

probably a few companies in the UK that can do it :)

Would that also work on new chrome plated tuning machines?
