What's the best standalone humbucker for a 1 pickup 80's metal axe like a charvel or jackson or kramer?
I was thinking Miracle Man but i'm guessing most of them would do the job well?

Do you want versatility, or simple balls to the wall aggression?
Not that I know the answer either way.

MM

Kinda of a hard one I think. Depending on what 80s metal your after, you could go from the Warpig MM or Painkiller, down to around the VHII.

holy diver (the new one)
did tim make some changes in winding specs or just the dc resistance and magnet?
i think the old version is more on dimarzio super distortion vibe and the new one is more duncan jb
i'm VERY impressed how my les paul is singing in standard E or drop D tuning
sounds so tight, full, clear
the solos, palm muted riffs and harmonics are so perfect ;~
i can't imagine how another pickup could be better

I have the old spec Holy Diver in my basswood Ibanez, so i'm probably not going to get a Holy Diver, though i might try the newer spec one.
It does have to be versatile but not screaming gain to blues clean versatile, more heavy metal with nice harmonics to some lower gain heavy rock.

I'd have said the new Holy Diver will be bang on
-
Also i forgot to say it needs to be good at rolling off the volume for a clean sound (there will be chorus added)

Hopefully soon I will finally get my VHII in a Strat and be able to give you an authoritative opinion...
but obviously the original one pickup superstrat was EVH's Frankenstein guitar. It can do a good clean (alnico magnet), and obviously has no trouble with harmonics. I can imagine that it'd handle the serious gain required for metal too.
So my guess is the VHII would be a good shot.
