A Japanese-made Tokai. Some of the high end models have better components, materials and construction quality than what Gibson are putting out these days.

I've also heard good things about Edwards.

ESP Ecplise.

Plays great and the construction's flawless.

Someone on the forum has the Black/gold one which is stunning.

That would be me I guess. The ESP is more a metal guitar however or for the "gigging" guitar player, as its tone is more its own... tighter and more crunchy... not as fat and big as a LesPaul. Sot it's a matter of taste what you like. Me, as an SG guy, I like that tone a lot.
If you want the classic LesPaul tone, I'd probably look into those other Japanese companies (Tokai, Burny, Greco) or - with a big wallet of course -  there's always Heritage, Orville, Nik Huber, PRS.

Tokai all the way, though ESP do some nice copies too.

Edwards.  You'd probably have to buy direct from Japan though.

Or shop around on eBay for old Grecos and Burnys.

+1 on Japanese Tokais.

I got a nice piccy of a Greco Explorer. They're hard to find though. I like the binding and chrome hardware. Hamer standards have a similar look.

Hey Ratrod that looks real nice with the binding.

+1 on the Hamer standards (despite their Cheap Trick associations ;) )

Also consider Tokai explorers.

For something more unusual thought about a Firebird shape, I personally think theyre just as metal as Explorers

Here's another cool looking Explorer copy. I love the dark mahogany, black hardware and chrome pickups look but for 100 quid it's probably cr@p.

But it's pretuned so who cares about the quality.

Seriously though, I saw a couple guitars in a shop in Wales of their acrylic bodied strats (very fender like headstock) and their V model (also very like the Gibson original)

A Bolt on Explorer thats just an wierd thought !

That was just over a year ago (in a shop in Wales) and they where tolerable for the price. I considered buying one just as a source for an acrylic Strat body (but I was hunting 12 strings at the time)

WTF, they fo an acrylic bodied LP, what sort of weight would that be, if they have went for a thick body !

Possibly, but I'm old and it just dosn't sound right to me.

Though in saying that I had a Tokai Firebird with a bolt on neck and it played great and had a nice 'snap' to it's tone

Wanders off muttering about being old and confused .....

yeah, i want the classic mahogany sound of all these models i mentioned. Les paul, explorer or flying V
but i think itīwill be a hard task to find any of these Brands you mentioned here in brazil. you know, iīm kinda at the ASS of the world here, Buying wise speaking. HAHAHAHAHAHA
q:P
i think i can grab an LTD ECLIPSE, cause the price isnīt that much, btu a real ESP eclipse will make my pockets as empty as oneīs Stomach, after a good Hangover and night of vomits
ahahahahahahaahahahahahahah
Q:p
JP

Those explorers you posted pics here are really gorgeous, but i never played one explorer before.
i just touched the neck profile on a gibson flying v(dnīt know the model) and it was as thick as a baseball thing ahahahahah
are all the flying vīs that thick neck profile?!
i loved the les paul ones
i had a les paul joe perry by epiphone.
i cnaīt say tomuch of it, since i was just developing my ears and guitars skills. so i cnaīt coment, but the pickups arenīt great, 2 Hellbuckers with the inscription OBL and both were BLADE pickups
any clue on it?!
Ah, that brand, SHELTER SX, korean guitars... i know that someone here bought someof their guitars ,can you do a review for me or link me with the pst where the review is?
Q:p

you're english is very good! i understood every bit!

stay away from Vintage gibson copies (i mean the company Vintage) if you want tone. they are exact (well, almost) copies of the Gibson ones, but made with cheaper components and wood. but if you BKPed one, it should sound fine!

Both my Edwards Vs have pretty chunky necks.  Which I like.  I don't know about the Tokai Vs (but new Tokai Vs are all Korean anyway, they don't make them in Japan at the moment).

Explorer necks are usually on the hefty side too.

Thankīs Phil and Bloodymountain
i Tend to Explain my snetences too much, and that can cause someconfusion for you, natives of english language. if i remember right, English is a pretty straight language. no need to explain the snetences. they are self explanatory, on most of the cases. With Portuguese, you have a new level of intrincated Meanings. one word/sentence can mean more than a couple of things. so, it need to be exactly explain. thatīs what tend to difficult peoples knowledge of portuguese. itīs kinda too much intrincated on itīs meanings.

By the way, Should i look to Epiphone guitars? they are pretty easy to find here . but, which models do you recomend?

stay away from Vintage gibson copies

The ones I've tried have sounded and felt every bit as good as their modern Gibson counterparts. I've always been EXTREMELY impressed.

mine is a 2004 VS6 SG copy. it is fine, but i only mentioned the TONE. the stock pickups aren't very good, and i suspect the tone isn't the same due to the quality of wood.

Alot of people are quite harsh on LTDs but every one I've played have been rather nice to be frank, although I'm not a construction wizard.

The eclipse I first played was an LTD and it was fine, nice shape and weight, good finish, nice tone, and came with a bunch of features.

The only bad LTDs I've played are the Agathis ones, not that the contruction was that bad, they're just cr@p guitars.

I own an Epi SG custom, and although the build isn't too bad, I don't like the tone at all.

Q:p
SO,if the contruction and the woods Are OK, then iīll grab it.

Got one of my Yamaha SG's for sale:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1979-Yamaha-SG800-Sunburst-SG-800-SG-800_W0QQitemZ130093993325QQcategoryZ33049QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

My other Yamaha SG has a set of Mules in and it absolutely blows away my friends Gibson Les Paul and cost at least a third of the price than what he paid. Slap a set of BKP in the one I got for sale and I reckon you'll be more than happy!

So that why the ladied get Brazilians before going on holiday (sorry)

Actually the reason I comment is that with the Yamaha SG being in production again they should be available in Brazil.

How about Dean, they do some magogany bodied guitars

As for 60% the UK is 30% appx, theyre all bandits
