Title: Question about Push Push
Post by: noodleplugerine on March 25, 2007, 02:18:22 AM
Do I have the right idea that, it's push to get one selection, and pushing again goes back to another...

But how about 3 way selections?

Does it work?

And are they any better than a 3 way Gibson style switch?

Also, would it fit in the same whole as my gibson style switch as it needs something to grip on both sides, or will it want one of my knob positions?

push-push is the same as push-pull, far as I know, except you push for on, and push again for off.

I think. I haven't looked into the wiring intricacies of it, but in use it does the same job (or at very least can be wired up to do the same job).

EDIT: I don't know what you mean about the Gibson 3-way switch? you'd tend to pair one with a 3- (or 5-) way switch, not instead of one, i'd have thought?

Past time I looked for push push pots they simply where not available, something to do with Yamaha was what I was told.

Probably changed nowadays though

The yamaha ones where sired the same way as the push pull pots

I'm only asking cos I noticed BKP were selling them, so I thought they'd have to be at least half decent.

Oh good (I hadn't previously noticed), as I hate the height that the knob sits at when it is pulled out (that sentance just shouldn't be used in polite company)

Apparently not, I've seen some guitars which have them alone now, look at the Caparison Horus for instance.

They can be a little bit fragile

Yamaha do them but they cost over £20 each and can only be used on a Tone control and they are 300K ohms not 500K

Are these the big Yamaha pots that look a bit like a CTS with a cradle underneath holding the switch components (sorry I can't describe it any better than that)? I saw some in a spare parts shop recently and they had 3 kinds, 2 were 300k but mirror opposites of each other to make it easier to wire in a LP (or presumably Yamaha SG) orientation, and the 3rd was a 500k so I guess they do make them unless it was NOS. I think they only had one or two and yes they were expensive.

Why can some pots only be used for tone?

Allparts.com has them, and I replaced all of my yamaha switches (pure junk) with them. They work great.  With the yamaha ones, if tried to take the knobs off, 95% of the time you'd break the switch permanently into the out position.

ah, ok, fair enough. Maybe it only has two pickup selections? something like that. I know the lynch esp I tried a while back was like that.
