Title: what does "tight"actually mean

this question is a bit basic, but I'll swallow my pride and ask it anyway.

when people say "tight pickup" or "tight bass response" does it refer to the envelope's attack?
does the sound from an untight pickup takes a bit longer to fully "grow" (in lack of a better word)?
does "tight bass response" mean that the lower frequencies won't boom a half a secont after the initial attack (we're talking heavy distortion here!!!)?

I just have'nt had much experiance with different pickups...

any input will be most helpful, Thanks.

I always assumed it was just the opposite of "muddy"

Very succinct!
For me it's like the difference between a heavy guage string at standard tuning, clear and precise,  versus light gauge strings tuned down to C where you can't distinguish one note from another and everything just gets a bit farty.

I'm trying to determin the difference between thight and less tight, but not muddy. (Miracle man vs. nailbomb for example)

To me, tight is the opposite of boomy bass. It's like when you have a mesa amp with boomy or woofy low end, you put a tubescreamer in front of it to cut the bass a bit from the pickups to get a tighter sound.

You get CHUG instead of CHUMMHhh...

to me it means having a precise, controlled bass end.

When the bass response is not tight, you have overhang.

Tight = fast bass response, ie it tracks your playing tightly. The opposite extreme would be flabby/boomy bass which is sluggish.
