Title: Another favourite thread! (favourite album)
Post by: Crazy_Joe on March 30, 2007, 09:29:33 PM
Ok, favourite album of all time.

The album that got me into metal in the first place, and what an album to start on!!
First and favourite album of all time: METALLICA - KILL 'EM ALL \m/

Best thrash album of all time imo. It's just perfect in everyway and i cannot explain it better than that.

That is a tough one Joe.For me it changes with mood and I would be hard pressed to say. I could give a top ten fairly easily but if put on the spot, I would say The Beatles "Revolver".

Yeah, changes a lot but I always go back to If You Want Blood ... AC/DC. Still got a tape copy from 1989, still play it in the car.

Side B Track 1, Whole Lotta Rosie: The greatest live track of all time?

Angus! Angus! ...

+1 to Kill 'em All tho. Quality stuff.

Yeh, I always liked Kill 'em All even better than (please don't hate me!) Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning. But it's all quality stuff for sure.
My all-time Faves:

Led Zeppelin I-IV (Led Zeppelin

Machine Head, In Rock (Deep Purple)

Hypnotize, Mezmerize (System of a Down)

But my very favourite would have to be Scenes From a Memory (Dream Theater) - I've listened to it so many times, but I still get something different from it each time... if you know what I mean. It's the kind of album where it's really good on the first listen, but it still gets even better every time you hear it.

Incredible stuff.

I'm with 38th on this, my mood changes & so does the album, but more often than not it's THE BLACK CROWES - AMORICA for the perfect blend of country, rock n roll pure musical goodness in an album. The blend of Rich Robinson (working hard to take the title of Riff from Keith Richards) & Marc Ford (possible one of the most under rated guitarists...EVER) on this album makes for the best ever. Every mood is covered & even the lyrics can make you think...not often you can say that.

I think my favourite album ever might be Pink Floyd - The Wall. It's the album that really got me interested in guitar playing and I still listen to it now and again.

Judas Priest - Painkiller and Metallica - Black Album come close though.

I agree with Mr 38th, a top 10 would be easier (actually maybe top 100   ).  But - partly from nostalgia, but mainly because I still love it and it always cheers me up - I'm going to say

Robin Trower - Robin Trower LIVE!

I have way too many albums and styles I like to pick just one (I'm not good at one's - look how many guitars I have - same problem with women and cars!).

If it was favourite by genre that might be a bit easier, but since it is favourite of all time, I am going with classic rock and my favourite is

Free Live

My runners up (today) are:
Argus - Wishbone Ash
Salisbury - Uriah Heep
BLack Sabbath
Split - Groundhogs
Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
Now & Live - Paul Rodgers (with Geoff Whitehorn on guitar)

I'll come back tomorrow with a different list though

Impossible to pick just one. Depends on so many factors.

But, at 8am Saturday on 31 March 2007 my all-time favourite album is:

Angel Witch

very hard to pick, as everyone's said already.

I'm kinda torn between Van Halen (VH1) and Guns n roses appetite for destruction. EDIT: surfin with the alien (satch) and ah via musicom (eric johnson) are pretty good too.

that could pretty much change whenever, though.

Hmm..
Tricky.
Maybe Mahavishnu Orchestra "Birds Of Fire". The Infinity Project "Mystical Experiences" is very close.

It is kinda hard, but usually there is that one album that you keep going back to, or can just listen to anytime no matter what the mood is. I can listen to Kill Em All anytime, anywhere, anyplace.

"Grace" by Jeff Buckley without a shadow of a doubt.

Boguht it 25th June 1999, listened to it at least once a day, every day, for 18 months. I've calmed down a lot now - just 4 or 5 times a week.

Cracking voice, much better guitarist than people give him credit for, and a bloody good song writer, who managed to prove that having a frankly huge vocal range didn't mean you had to warble needlessly over the music (see Whitney, Mariah et al). Buckers always managed to use his voice to the benefit of the song. Ace

*A somewhat obsessive Rahnooo*

Wow.... tough call.

I'll have to go with a complete split between.

Back in black - ACDC
Vs - Pearl Jam
Nevermind - Nirvana
Sufin with the alien - Satch
Dookie - Green Day
Roll on - The living end

I guess to help clarify this Crazy_joe you might want to add to the qualification for "farvourite" as perhaps:

"I can slap this albums on anywhere/time and listen to it start to finnish without skipping a track."

Doesnt help me mind you as anyone can get into my car and chances are one of these albums are playing.

Haha, well i guess it's just me then, i agree different moods can lead to different choices, i just find that there is 1 album that no matter the mood i can shove it on and sing along/air guitar to.

Wow, someone else picked 'Birds of Fire' - thought I'd be the only one!

It's up there, with 'Revolver', 'Grace', 'OK Computer' and 'Day Is Done'by Brad Mehldau. Oh,and maybe  'Moanin' by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers...

...and something by Cypress Hill

...and Tom Waits

...and Frank Zappa

I give up!

Ah Grace-if ever there was a classic-you are right Rahnoo-you see it is impossible to choose an all time favourite album-just can't be done.I start thinking about Hendrix, Zappa, Little Feat, Jeff beck, The Faces, Ronnie Lane and...well I could go on all night.

As for my typing.... remember its late as hell when I jump on here. so cut me some slack on my typo's. I'm on the other side of the world OK :D

Man this is tough! Right now I'm sort of fixated on Paul Gilberts solo album "Get out of My Yard". But it might be because I'm going to see G3 in 10 DAYS!!!

I guess the one I always go back to has to be Van Halen- VHII. It doesn't have my favorite songs of all time on it, but I do love all the songs there.

Been listening to a lot of Rubber Factory by The Black Keys recently.  I really would recomend this to EVERYONE.  Been listening to Jamie T a lot too (some may take the mickey, but that album has gone straight up my flagpole).

As for favorite album of all time, that's a real toughy......mmmmmm........Now That's What I Call Music Volume 10 (the one with the Crocket and Tubbs theme tune   )
