Title: Just felt I needed to share how pleased I am with my set up
Post by: everton_fc on March 31, 2007, 07:51:12 AM
Seeing that my Mrs couldn't give a damn I felt I needed to just say to some fellow axe men out there how pleased I am witrh my set up at the moment.

Recently I've stripped away all my effects pedals, except a wah wah and a tuner, stuck a couple of old Mullard EC883 preamp valves in my amp, and combined with my Yamaha SG (loaded with a pair of Mules) I'm really happy.

The amp sounds full on...it really sings - reckon the preamp valves made quite a difference - a bit more bottom end and fullness. The Mules are great and everytime I play live I always gets comments on how nice the Yamaha SG sounds.

Anyway, felt the urge to share that with people who actually give a damn.

Yamaha SG (with BKP Mules) > Fender Tuner > Keeley Modified Vox Wah Wah > Marshall Silver Jubilee 2x12" Combo

Just to explain more about my Mrs... I'm like...

"Those Rebell Yells really sound damn good. Wonder if I could get some and load them into my other Yamaha SG"

Her response is...

"Who's Steve Stevens, and he needs a hair cut"

I wish her response was...

"Have £200. Treat yourself to some Rebel Yells. Also, here's a four pack of stella and £100 spending money so you can go out on the piss all night with your mates. You can even go to a strip joint if you want. Love you..."

he he he

You can't beat a clear line. YOu can have too many pedals, but then again try telling Sonic Youth that!

I agree Horsehead, the ladies, bless em, just don't get it do they. I try to engage Mrs 38th and make her feel part of it all by asking for her thoughts upon the merits of different guitars/pickups/amps and....well she could not be more disinterested if she tried.I just don't understand. What is wrong with them.

i do the same, although my girlfriend's very good when it comes to this sort of thing. She acts interested, and points out what sounds she does and doesnt like, and points out what model of guitar everything is on the telly. She keeps getting angry that i spend all my money on gutiars and none on her though.
If you're reading dear, this is my list of priorities;
1. '62 Stratocaster project guitar, in Sonic Blue, with matching amp.
2. You.

(Thanks god you're not reading)

It's not just women who don't understand. Anyone who doesn't play guitar doesn't understand when we talk about certain guitars/amps/FX/etc.

If you understand I don't have to explain. If I have to explain you'll never understand.

My woman is a classically trained singer, who also dabbles in the acoustic side of guitaring.

Upshot is I how permission to go nuts in the acoustic section of a music shop. Though my loud electric twangings piss her off something terrible.

"play something NICE" is a common sound in the flat...

Almost, coz she doesn't eat meat. I'd hate it if my girlfriend was better than me at playing guitar though :(

I think, on the whole, it might be just you. But maybe that's just me :)
Personally, I prefer SGs and Les Paul DCs, 'cause of the nice high fret access.

Nope, she lists 'meat' as one of her hates. And she's a dog person. [And she's probably straight too... as if that made any difference :)]
