i'm just going to throw out a couple questions that i've had forever. extremely noob questions so i'm terribly sorry.
1.first off, what is the difference between using the effects loop for different effects or just going straight in to the input from your guitar?
2.also, the bass, mid, treble on the amp... do they effect the loudness of each aspect, or most likely the tone of them (presence?)?
3. define muddiness. i'm thinking it just means not clear, not enough note definition. seems to make sense.
i had other ones but i forget. oh well.

time based effects sound best in loop...is "inserted" after preamp gain of amp, whereas certain effects sound best in "front" of preamp gain, like wah, filter
different amps do different things with those controls...in mesa mark series amps, for example, the treble control also can act as a gain boost-pretty darn cool
-the mud adjective will bring different responses fer sure

ok thanks for the responses. so if i get a dealy pedal... it'd be best to throw it in in the fx loop? and will throwing something like an od pedal have a different sound depending on whether its straight in or in the loop?

def. go with delay in loop..od in front

sweet thanks.

i guess i'll make this my general "ask all my questions" thread.
what helps you to get a heavier sound, adding more bass?
can i hook up any mic straight to my laptop or do i need a usb mic?
how the hell do i go about getting any sort of quality recording? any good free software?

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN TERMS OF "HEAVY"...more distorted guitar?thicker...more sustain..maybe describe in terms of a band or guitarist-the treb/pres/and bass do diff. things on diff. amps-on my amp, the treble actually functions as a gain boost-I have a very heavy tone, but my bass never gets past 2-maybe post what you are playing through...

well i just realized that my bass, mid, and treble controls are only for the clean channel. i have a single tone knob for the gain channel. i kept trying to adjust the bass knob wondering why it didn't do anything. now i know why.

personally, i'd say get a new amp.
But if this is the one with the FX loop, get an EQ (danelectro fish n chips will do) and put it into the loop. Set the tone knob to the middle position (where you get the flattest sound: equal balance of bass and trebel). Then tweak the EQ to get what you want out of it... if the eq isnt enough, tweak the tone knob a tiny bit. If none of this works, either get a better EQ, or just go for a better amp.

yeah i was thinking of an eq once i got the money. but i can't see myself selling the amp. It has the best distortion i've ever heard.

still looking for answers on these, as i'd like to get my recording started. Note that i'm on a huge budget. My parents aren't letting me spend any more money now that i spent a lot on a BKP, so...
I have an old Zenith microphone that i found in my basement, looks like some kind of garbage mic. Its real skinny with a flat top.
