Title: Is my tone pot broken?
Post by: Adam.M on April 09, 2007, 12:16:55 AM
Gah... recording tomorow... something just had to happen!

Whenever i play with the tone pot turned all the way up... it sounds like theres a loose wire inside, it sounds really quiet unless i play hard, then it's loud crackely and horrible.

I've got to turn the pot down about 1/4 before it goes away... any ideas?

It happend a bit after i had my new BKP installed too... heat damage to the tone pot maybe?

 :(

Yes they did

Remember that solder flows towards heat so applying enough heat into the component is important but not too much heat as you can damage electronic parts.

I will simplify it for you!

too much heat ... can damage electronic parts.

Have you read and understood that little guitar wiring 101 i posted in the other thread, it really is helpfull to fully understand what you are doing before you start - but if your dad has experience soldering you should be fine.

It is an easy job to do, but this thread illustrates one of the many potential problems you face if you dont take the time to learn about it first

admittedly...no. but i will go read it now. i'm fairly confident my dad could do it even if he didn't have a diagram, but i'll make sure he's not Fing anything up.
