Right, last night whilst rooting through my 'guitar drawer' I discovered I had a .52 gague string (I usually use 10s but with a .48 on low E). So as an experiment I strung my Warpig loaded SG with a 12s set that I cobbled together from all the unused strings I've got, and tuned it down to D (DGCFAD).
Christ: the Warpigs are, almost literally, AWESOME on this lower tuning. I guess its a mixture of the heavier strings and the lower tuning, thereby brining out more of the bass response in the pigs. I was beginning to think that the pigs, although good, were perhaps lacking something ... but down tuned to D they are just the mutts.
I then dropped the low D to C.
More destruction! My setup now absolutely kills when tuned dowm to D and dropped to C. I am leaving that guitar tuned down to D, and may even get some even heavier strings to go for a C tuning. This setup, .12s tuned to D + Warpigs is like a sledgehammer beating a rythmn out ... it is just amazing.
Anyways, lesson learnt is that Warpigs are really suited to lower tunings, but IMO aren't really suited to standard E tunings ... I reckon the Miracle Man would suit the E player better.
Another upshot of all of this is that I now have to buy another guitar for normal E tuned low gain rock :) Oh well!

Yep, pigs thrive on low tunings and heavy strings like nothing else.
My warpig in in D or drop C with 10-56 DRs
My ceramic warpig is in C# or drop B with 11-60 GHSs
Welcome to my world

I tried many different tunings with the Warpig. My favorite is still D to drop C. Very agressive sounding. Great for Rammstein stuff.

Seems like you need an SG fitted with Riff Raffs for that Angus-style tone

this sounds great!! i need new strings before i can install my pig.....
need to buy asap!
would 12-54s be good for C# standard?
thanks!

They'll probably end up about the same or slightly slacker than 9s in E. Light for my tastes, but it should be playably tight.
Edit: btw, I use 12-54 for E and Eb ;)

Don't start! I was planning on getting an Explorer / V and moving the Warpigs in to that, and then Getting Riff Raffs for the SG, but then I saw the PRS Singlecut ...
Hmmm, maybe there is still a plan there though:
* Buy V/Explorer, fit Warpigs, down tune to D/ drop C: kill at 10 paces
* Buy Riff Raff bridge / Stormy Monday neck, fit into SG: Bad boy boogie
Wrargggg! If only I had an infinite amount of money.
Does any one out there have 'pigs in an explorer / V? I'm a bit concerned that the explorer won't be as full on as the SG bass wise ... doesn't it have peaky mids? And I know next to nothing about the V. Maybe I simply need another SG :? Hrmm.

Given the tension I'm getting off a .52 at D, I'd say you need to get closer to .60 down the bottom end for C#, if you're after the kind of tension you get off 10s when tuned to E standard.

I've only had my warpig and MQ combo just over a week and it sounds fantastic tuned down to a C with or without a drop tuning!
I've not tried it at concert pitch but i have two other guitars with MM and CS for that.
