The other song I posted still needs some work, so here is another song from the same sessions. The song is titled Squadron. Some of you may recall this song, as I posted a couple of bits of it in the Players forum over a year ago!

SQUADRON
(BK note: All guitars here are bridge Cold Sweat)
Riding high, sweeping the skies
With steel and tracer fire
Through clouds of white, formation tight
Climbing ever higher
Pinpoint lights beat back the night
And mark the funeral pyres
Another day, it’s bombs away
Guide the bombers out
Move as one – look for the rising sun
Move as one – the Thunder God’s own
Move as one – this mass of metal and guns
Move as one – to make it back home
(Solos: BA/JP/BA)
(BK note: Pickups used for the break are Cold Sweat bridge/Abraxas neck/Miracle Man bridge)
Night so black you feel the flak
Explode but never see
Wings they strain above terrain
That holds the enemy
Escorts to death, inferno’s breath
The hammer blows resound
To Gods below some comrades go
Spiraling to ground
Move as one – look for the rising sun
Move as one – the Thunder God’s own
Move as one – this mass of metal and guns
Move as one – to make it back home

awesome stuff TO, keep it up!!!
is there going to be a release soon?
i love that middle section with the solos, very melodic!
:D

nice work..
the tone at the end 3:36 onwards is killer! not too keen on the tone up to that point though really not my cuppa tea sounds a bit thin?
-
I tried to get at this from my Mac at home with Safari and it wouldn't load past about the 23rd second! :P The sirens and the first few seconds of riff sounded cool though .... :)
It seems to load in Firefox on my Windows machine at work, but I haven't got a sound card there! I'll try again on the Mac at home, switching to Firefox there if Safari chokes on it again ....

That is unacceptable.

Ah, many thanks! I like downloads -- I never have time to sit still long enough to listen to a stream, but downloads I can stick them on my iPod to mull over whilst walking to work. And having done that now :) ....
Yeah, this rocks! And hell, you've got more riffs packed into this song than most people get on an album! :) I quite like the pretty bit that crops up around 2.20->2.45; I'd swear I heard something like it, tho not not quite the same, before ... maybe something classical? I dunno. Sounds good, anyway. And I love the crunching, doomy riff around 3.22->4.02. I have no difficulty imagining Iommi & Co. muscling their way through something like that.
I think I see what JamesHealey says about "thinness", but I think that has perhaps more to do with this being a rough mix -- not really produced, not really mastered -- than it does with the sound coming out of the amps. I know you guys are not into the trend for "compressed to hell" mastering -- and I approve! -- but I suspect the final product will sound a bit fatter and more spacious than it does here. And, anyway, although "denser than a wall of dark matter" detuned Warpig brutality certainly wouldn't sound thin, it also wouldn't really be right for this music! We're very much in an Aces High vibe here. :)
But, compositionally, I think none of us could possibly complain. It rocks, it's got good melody and hooks, and it dives-climbs-and-turns in unexpected ways without ever disappointing. Nice! 8)

Ben, I'm glad you took my advice on the other terrible song! (as I'm probably one of the few that heard it and commented when it was posted)
I expected better from you... must try harder...
Regards, The Afghan Simon Cowell

I know you guys are into the trend for "compressed to hell" mastering
eh?
if anything they're totally against the compression.. this mix just turned out way hotter than it should have.
as for thin .. that has to do with the ears, speakers and perception of the listener.

Argh! I meant to write not into! I know I've read TO complaining amount contemporary mainstream mastering philosophy.
I'll edit the original post ....
But then what are you thinking of as thin? I'm listening again, and while I wouldn't call the guitars or bass really fat, that's kinda consistent with the vibe of melodic power metal, no? The drums sound a little dry, maybe? And, hmm, I suppose the bass could fill in a little more of the low end?
-
i liked the solos and heavier breakdown riff immediately after them. those were my favourite bits.
also, i like that you're (collective you're, lol) a metal band with the guts to actually sing.
-
It's cool that the rising sun is mentioned, now that it's the graphic you got on your amp and Yoshi 8)

i like them just the way they are. in your face and aggressive. but i like guitar sounds, where you dont need to watch your cholesterol level, cos they ooze fatness..ness :P

Awsome stuff TO, loving the tone, great solos, really melodic and memorable.
-
i like it!!!
I love the arrangement and the riffs.
Also, the singing is great!
It reminds me of Riot...
Its good you can hear the bass riffing about underneath aswell.
Id have kept with the theme of airplanes and stuck a couple of whammy bar dives in with the soloing ;)
New album should be good.
