I'd go for Matamp over Hiwatt any day, but then I would say that. For me Hiwatts are way too clean.
second hand KS on ebay at the moment

 No they're not.
I have one V, but its not a Gibbo.
Gibson have seriously fallen out favour with me. Shocking wiring and workmanship in these last few years...and not to mention prices...

what's wrong with the wiring?

Being wired by blind gibbons then? Where's the sheilding, did they forget it?
-
Looks like normal modern Les Paul wiring to me. cr@ppily executed of course...

don't should have seen my Sg especially the cr@p Blaurence pickups...earth wasn't connected
Couldn't get within 10ft of the amp

Gibsons are hardly ever shielded. In the 70s they used these weird shielding "cans" that surrounded the electronics, but I don't think they've ever used foil or conductive paint shielding.

Nope - I've never heard of them screening anything.

I didn't know that Gibson don't really sheild.
As a side note, I bought some sticky back copper tape to sheild the electrics on a project. It's a right bitch to install so I layed it over some cardboard that was cut to shape and glued that in. The copper tape came from the garden centre as you're supposed to stick it around the bottom of plant pots to stop slugs. Cheaper than the stuff from guitar suppliers.

Yes its so bad!
In Rose Morris in London this exact guitar costs £1,889. I nearly fainted when I saw the price. And what do you get? Electronics which fail within a couple of years.
I've built a couple of fx pedals myself so i'm really anal about tidy wiring and proper electronics connections.
So now I've ordered a premium wiring upgrade kit from Speciality guitars in US so when I install my new VHII's, I'll change pots and caps.
Shouldn't really have to do this on a Gibson.
*rant over*
