Title: question about battle worn covers
Post by: Transcend on April 19, 2007, 01:01:29 AM
would it be possible to get a battle worn cover but gold and black

rather than chrome and black

what im thinking is similar to the ltd truckster (3 layer jobby)

like black paint with the ground marks in that will be the silver of the metal obviously but also have it worn next to that to show gold???

sorry if this isnt very easy to understand im half asleep

Well, isn't it mostly about the fact that the pickup covers are made out of a silver metal?

And that they're then covered in black paint and worn in places to show the silver underneath?

You'd need a gold cover painted black in that case...

Yeah, that's all I thought it was - regular pickup cover, painted black and attacked from all sides.

so a normal gold cover painted black would show the black paint obviously and a bit of gold then silver?

Errr, why would you want silver, gold and black? That'd be lame.

It'd all depend on whether the pickup cover was originally made of a silver metal and then plated gold and painted black or made of a gold metal.

Yes, as far as I know all gold covers are gold plate over nickel, so the silvery colour would come through if you rubbed away enough of the finish.

the gold would go with the gold hardware on my les paul

i dont actually want it silver gold and black specifically

i want it kind of worn like the ltd truckster finish but with the angle grinded parts on

Might not be an easy thing to do.Gold covers are plated a few microns thick with gold over solid nickel silver.Even if we spray a gold cover black I think the gold would come off pretty quickly with the black as it's so soft.

Why yes, yes it would.

But I spose they don't really make battle-worn gold normally, probably coz gold doesn't contrast with silver very much and therefore isn't as effective.

But I thought that silver/black/gold might look pretty cool if what you were after in the first place can't be done...

I have a battle-worn cover on my Warpig and it seems like a nickel cover which has been powder-coated black and then scratched up. I think if they used a gold cover, powder-coated it black, and then gave it the 'battle-worn' effect the gold would get scratched off along with the black.

that sounds pretty cool, and will almost definitely be unique, which i would take as an added bonus
