Title: Audioslave Crawlers
Post by: Ratrod on July 11, 2005, 01:22:17 PM
Here are the first two clips I've recorded with my Crawler loaded Yamaha SG400. Amp is a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe on a 2X12 cabinet. Mic is a Shure SM57 placed in front of the speaker cabinet and fed into a flat EQ mixing desk. Distortion is a Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor. Both clips are a bit bassy because I only miced the cab, I only had one of them at my disposal.

First song is Cochise with a backing track. I used the neck pickup all the way through the song. The helicopter/doppler/siren intro and fast delay in the first solo were done using a Danelectro Shift Daddy. For the breakdown part, I switched the Tube Factor to factor 1, all the rest is on factor 2.

I missed a note here and there, I'm not used to tap dancing on floor pedals. :?

You tell me, does it sound like Tom?

Here's the second clip. It's a fragment of What You Are. I used the bridge pickup on this one. First part factor 1, chorus on factor 2. Tuning is BADGBE. There's no backing track on this, Brad Wilk wouldn't come over.

Thanks Steve. I think I'll post some more of this pickup. I'm trying to find a song that will put both pickups through their paces. The definitive Crawler song.

I've been fooling around with that Darkness song. Sounds pretty cool. Don't know if I'm actually playing it right, it's just from memory.

I have a old ply bodied squier strat with 2 crawlers in it, and it sounds great.A really ballsy full sound with awesome sustain.
Im using it for the more blues/rock stuff in my band, and then switch back to the Nailbomb strat or the Cold Sweat Les Paul for the heavy stuff

It's as hot and sticky in London tonight. I think I'll get some cold beers and call it a day!

I once thaught the only way to get a good clean sound from an electric guitar was the use of single coils or filter-trons. BKP proved me wrong.

Where can I get some Rammstein backing tracks? Or should I just play some of it without backing tracks?

Total Guitar do alot of good backing tracks, or www.licklibrary.com (have to pay for this)

What you could do is get Guitar Pro + crack it, get the tab for the song you want, export it to a Midi file (- the parts you will be playing) then you'll have a midi backing track at least...

Don't think so. The CD's aren't the best of quality. I have a new Technics on my stereo wich doesn't play all my CD's. I have an old late '80's JVC in the studio. Indestructible, plays everything, CD's soaked in beer and scratches are no problem. Hell, it would play a pancake!

 I thought it might be something to do with the software i use on the pc..Winamp. It's great for all things really but TG discs it won't play them. Which is a pain cos i got the new one today and it has an Ironman backing track.

JVC stuff from years ago is top quality. I've got a huge brushed ally graphic equaliser from the late 70's. It's bomb proof and really sorts out my pikey hi-fi! I got it at a car boot sale 10 years ago for about 10 quid I think it was! The rest came from working in posh folks houses that they were chucking out!

I tell you Ratrod i'm kicking myself over this one. A mate of mine is a builder and one of his old customers rang him to see if he would mind disposing of her old stereo equipment with his van. So he rang me to see if i wanted any of it and i got a pair of brand new Linn speakers which i was well pleased about. The rest of it and there was tonnes of it, looked out of date so in my misguided opinion turned it down as i thought it was a white elephant. So he passed it all on to another mate of mine who got £3000 for it!!! :x  :(

I always keep a lookout for some old Phillips speaker boxes with built in active EQ at flea markets and such. I've heard they were the best.
