Title: Where do these 2 wires go?
Post by: _tom_ on April 23, 2007, 04:01:46 PM
Got my new (well, new to me) strat body today and its had all the cavities shielded. Screwed into the inside of the guitar theres this -

2 wires connected to that thing, where do they go to?

Thanks for looking :)

Earth circuit.

One to the output jack and one to back of pots  ;)

Thanks for the help :) Which lug on the output jack should one go, tip or sleeve?

Sleeve.

The wires make sure the shielding foil is connected to the ground circuit.  You'll also need a wire from the trem spring claw to the back of a pot to ground the strings.

I think that one end of the wire needs to pop through the hole that leads to the tremolo cavity and will end up soldered to the spring claw

I guess that'd be the same as running it to the back of one of the pots?

Cheers for the replies guys, but I think I have a bigger problem :( Tried putting my old strat copies neck in and its just a tiny bit too wide - maybe 1mm, if that. Measured the neck pocket and the widest is 55mm.. will Philkings '57 Fender MIM strat neck fit in? If it doesnt, is it ok to sand either side of the neck pocket just a bit, so that it can squeeze in? The seller said it fits a standard Warmoth/Fender neck, but according to warmoth their necks are 55.5mm wide, which is obviously a bit bigger than my neck pocket.

Then again, could perhaps just be my old tape measure being inaccurate?

Unless you actually take the body with you to buy a neck, you really can't tell in advance if it'll fit or not - and better too tight a fit than too loose!

You might be lucky, the Strat neck could fit straight away.  If not, you're safe enough widening the pocket a bit.  It's hard to get it really flat/straight with sanding.  You could maybe use a sharp blade to remove the paint in the sides of the pocket (if there is any), or if you have a router you could make a template and carefully give the sides of the pocket a light scr@pe.

I was planning on just using some paper and a sanding block to widen it slightly - I thought if I take a slight amount off each side of the pocket, then a bit off the sides of the neck heel if need be, it should get me that extra room.

Then again, like you said, it might not even need it. My strat copy is a cheaper one so I guess its not the most accurate piece of kit.

Totally OT, but I really dont know why I'm awake at this time, I have double IT starting at 8:45 tomorrow morning   I just cant sleep at the minute..

The width of the neck at the widest point os 55.4 mm.  I measured it with a digital caliper, so I know it is accurate.  I'm not sure how you measured yours, but I can't see a Fender neck not fitting an after market body.

I just used an old fiberglass tape measure so its not particularly accurate

Sent the payment last night, Phil, look forward to getting this beast on my guitar!
