Title: Jazzmaster pickups
Post by: R/2e on July 13, 2005, 04:07:48 PM
Tim, what about a Jazzmaster pickup? I know there are not so many afficionados of the JM as the Strat and the LP, but those poor folks have only one upgrade choice as far as I can see - Seymour's finest.  I'd love to see them getting a Surfing Apache version. They must be fairly close to P90's?

I was thinking just this the other day, good question!  I really like the Jazzmasters, the way they look, feel and play (when set up properly at least, lots of bad Jag/JM set ups in stores!) but they've never quite had the tone for me.... very good but not quite there.  If something bigger, ballsier with a round and articulate tone was available I could well see myself picking up a JM and putting them in.  One of my favourite bands, Bush, have had some great Jazzmaster tone over the years, good stuff.

I don't think BKP will be producing any Jazzmaster or Jaguar pickups. The market is too small. However,  Tim will happily rewind the originals for you.

Damn boy, you're definately after my job  but you're right, with tooling costs running into thousands of £s it's not really worth it for us at the moment...........don't rule it out for the future though.
We do a mean Jazz or Jag rewind though.

I assume you can re-wind pretty much any pickup, but can you voice them hotter/thicker etc?

Like if someone wanted a JM pup that was more like a hot P90, or something a bit like the Uber Sinner that was like 20k or something?

gerneraly, if its got a coil we can rewind it! unless the pickup has had epoxy resin used to seal it.

Within reason yes, although for a serious revoicing you're looking at swapping out the magnets too............also remember you'll never get a Jazzmaster to sound like a P90, they're totally different in their construction..........you can get in the ballpark though.

Thanks Tim, that was just an example but I thought it would be just about possible.
