I've gone in to order some replacement Machine heads for a really old Ibanez and a Japaenese made LP copy.
I turn around and see a Sun damaged Squire strat.... $119 Australian.
Thats what? 35 pounds mabey????
picked it up and thought "cheap guitar to strip and destroy with wierd fretts/nuts, paint job and other stuff. wont destroy something decent"
So turn around pick up a Squire Jazz bass and buy it.
I'm really still racking my brain as to why I spent my money on it.
1) Its not that great. Actually its one of the cheapest basses you can buy so its really bound to be rubbish.
2) I dont play bass. Aside from the rudimentary basics I wouldnt have a clue.
3) I have no other bass equipment. Not an amp, bass pick nothing.
4).... I cant think of 4 but I'm still spinning.
Anyway I thought I'd share that. Please feel free to tease I'm getting accosted by my mates so why not you lot too

I actually did that too once!
I thought the squire bass I had was actually ok ... a bit light for a bass maybe. But I'm not excatly a bass expert, having only ever played that one instrument!
On the upside, as a result I ended up being a bassist in a band for 6 months, the first band I was ever in, so it kind of turned out good in the end.
Go with it dude, you never know where it might lead!
P.S. ermm, a bass amp might help though :) :)

It'll work thru a guitar amp... Won't it?

Wait - you forgot to say the upside!
EDIT: Kidding! Bass is cool...

You can play bass through a guitar amp but you just have to watch the volume and not overload the speakers as they are not intended for bass frequencies-stating the obvious I know but thought I'd say it anyway.

my dad bought a Johnson budget bass new last year...
i thnk it's a jazz bass copy, with EMG-Johnson pickups...
it's a pretty cool bass: comfortable neck, powerful bridge pickup, fairly light...
he did the same as you, bought it on impulse on the spot!

I like playing bass alot - try a workout on bass then go back to playing guitar. you'll be bending those strings off the fretboard in no time, really helps with finger strength.
