Title: RAZORPIG! (pics and review!)
Post by: BloodMountain on April 29, 2007, 11:36:16 AM
yep, i finally have a Warpig and it is finally in my Razorback!

it is Ceramic and measures 21.6K, which is a HUGE amount of power!

so, as i don't have a cab for my main amp yet, i plugged it into my Behringer Modeling combo to test. i didn't expect it to sound good.
i was wrong.
it sounded alright until i realised one of the main modeling switches was switched to a bad srtting, then i flicked it up, hit that powerchord, and ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE! what followed was a huge riffing practice session, and i plyed all the heaviest riffs i could think of!
the guitar has thick strings and is tuned to C standard, which is brutal when paired with the Warpig!
now, about the sound:
- the mids are surgical, just as everyone said, not too scooped (or maybe scooped in a brutal way? i dunno   )
- The bass... holy shite!!!! it was on 5 and it was huge and TIIIIIGHT!
- It's bright, but not ice-picky or overdone on the highs!
- It's perfect for the heaviest riffs!
- The power is amazing, i was playing that chuggy riff in the middle of Sikth - Bland Street Bloom, and it was crushing!!!!! every time i hit that C5   powerchord, it chugs like hell!!! in the words of Phil Anselmo: SUUCH POWWWEEEEER!
- I can't wait to hear it through my Marshall 8100 Valvestate!!!!

so, i would like to thank Tim for making such $%&#ing awesome pickups, Crazy_joe for providing me with this beast and cooperating while i was having trouble buying, and EVERY forumite who led me to this pickup in recommendation threads and clips

So, with all that off my chest, here's some pics!

and finally, the guitar plus the BKPick

enjoy, and thankyou again to ALL!

a very evilly happy BM.

EDIT: i forgot to add, just imagine this: when you hit a chord with full distortion on, you feel a powerful punch. that is exactly what the Ceramic Warpig sounds like. it was the sound that i had in my head, and BKP have supplied it for me. for that, I will never buy any other pickups ever again.

cheers dude!

BKPs are full of tone, even ones at this high output... the tone's all there!

NP, sounds awesome, but the dimebucker was ceramic too, but the sound wasn't very impressive. the whole thing was made of plastic too!

From a guy that HATES Razorbacks, and LOVES to disagree with you;
Your guitar looks freaking INCREDIBLE man! That kicks SO much ass - With a gold MQ in there it's going to look even better...

SWEEEEEEEEEET!

You know, the only thing that sounds better than a C5 powerchord with a ceramic warpig is a B5 powerchord with a Ceramic Warpig 7!!!

Haha yeah. 7 Strings do cost more and are a pain to find. You could go one half step lower to BEADF#b. It probably won't mess with the feel much, I go from E to Eb and it's hardly any looser.

i think the black + gold looks great... not to keen on the other aspects of the guitar though

whoa shite thanks for the comments guys! i was just playing it, and you pretty much forget all the other aspects of the guitar! the tone is VERY distracting!

i will try to take some clips with my mp3 player's mic, but don't expect great quality. the highs will probably clip the mic, so i'll have to dial that or the volume down a bit too. i'm also still waiting for my cab, so when that arrives i will have batteries for my mp3 player then.... CLIPS!

thanks for the info caffeine junkie, but i'm sure i checked that and they were all tapped clips...

this is the best buy ever! the bottom end is TIGHT and the bass frequencies are PERFECT!!!

This may seem like a silly question but how are the cleans on it? I'm thinking of replacing my EMG 81 bridge pup with a ceramic pig. I'm fairly satisfied with the clean tone of the EMG just wondering how you think the cleans are the pig (I also have a coil split on the guitar too)

i can hear a difference between the Dimebucker and the Warpig cleans... the Warpig ones simply sound better, more life in them. i haven't really got a good amp to try clean tones with, but from what i've been hearing so far, it's great. they do distort if you have slightly too much gain, but nothing the gain knob can't handle. i don't use clean much anyway, so i'm not the greatest judge.
i'd expect it to be down to the amp. i'll report here when i get a speaker cable for my new amp and cab, on both clean and distorted. bear in mind that my new amp is SS though, for awesome death metal tones.
