Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of a custom Jackson guitar, an all maple neck-through soloist with a rosewood fretboard and I'm searching for the ideal pickup no matter what the brand is......Duncan, DiMarzio, BK, Bill Lawrence, Bartolini or anything.
I'm currently thinking for a PATB-1 from Duncan and I came here to BK to see if I can find something better.
What I want is a tight full-spectrum sound from a pickup that can balance the mapleness of that axe. You know, to fill the missing low-end but to remain tight with clarity if this can be done......The guitar must be tight and not fuzzy under high gain, not interested in clean sounds or anything.....
What pickup from BK is closest for that application? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the long blah blah post....
Thanks!

Strong low end while tight under high gain?
Sounds like a Warpig if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks very much for the reply!
That was my first thought too.
Anyone can compare it with the PATB-1 in terms of tightness and fullness?
I guess it's not such a popular pickup (PATB-1) though.....

a warpig on a maple guitar sounds a good choice, maybe a holydiver - just because i associate solid maple guitars with the 80's
Go through the players section and lsiten to some of the sound clips
I cant compare to that particular SD but i can say this - every BKP pickup i have tried has kicked the arse off SD's and Dimarzio's, and i was rather fond of my Dimarzio's not long ago.

Thanks for the suggestion and advice WezV!
I listened to some clips and I have listened to some, some time ago but I can't tell how they will sound in maple.
Maybe if anyone can suggest the BK pickups that are focused more on the low side of the spectrum but with a tight response?
I think they are the Warpig and Nailbomb closer to that?
Someone on another forum suggested the Miracle Man without being so sure. I like the tone of Miracle Man but I'm afraid of being harsh in maple......
Thanks again!

Not based on personal experience I'm afraid, but I've read on here that Cold Sweats work well in maple neck-thrus.
Probably not as Metal as WPs or HDs, but then the PATB-1 isn't especially RAAWWWWK either, if I remember right.

if you listen to any of Twilight Odyssey's clips, most of his are all maple guitars. think he has a Miracle Man in one
-
Thank you guys!
Yep, I'm not searching only pure metal pups, just to be clear and tight with a full sound to balance the maple.

Hi,
i have two of them. One Jackson RR1 USA 1994 model. I made an experiment and put a Nailbomb in this one and it sounds awesome for hi-gain metal all sort and clean ! .
I also have a Jackson custom shop Death Angel wich is a similar guitar to the solist also nechthru. I put a Miracle Man in the DA and this is the beast! only for high gain stuff though. This was Tims advise for this guitar and i'm a (EMG 81) player in the past..the MM is a supreme metal pickup imo.

Miracle Man. :)

i wouldn't say that miracle man is a "full-spectrum sound" pickup
maybe in mahogany or cedar guitars
for a maple guitar i'd go with alnico warpig
-
Hey, thanks for all the inputs!
I asked Tim and told me the Miracle Man too! I know I can trust him.
The Warpig has an awesome tone too. Really tough decision.
-
ask him about the alnico version of miracle man
he told he made some, but no one here seems to have one
-
Hmm, that's another good option Eric.
