Looking for a cool strat tone ala clapton like Gilmours cleans and Gilmours big blues bends. I like a warmer tone rather then peircing treble.

BKP's are not hum canceling-traditional single coils. Having said that, I have not suffered any noise problems with any of mine. The obvious answer to your question about Clapton tones is Slowhands. I can get those kind of tones but having said that, I have two BKP sets and both epitomize Strat tones in different way.Apaches are traditional Strat tones and the Slowhands have more mids.

Clapton Strat tone: Lace Sensors. (I'm having the classic Red/Silver/Blue trio fitted to mine right now but I think he used three Gold)
Gilmour Strat tone: EMG's.
BKP only do "true" singlecoils, ie, they hum.
Also worth bearing in mind that Clapton Strats have a built in active mid-boost circuit so, when combined with the Sensors, he gets a hum-cancelling singlecoil sound with a midrange hump for a bit of extra power.
EDIT: Excuse me, I just checked and the actual Fender Clapton Strats DON'T use Lace Sensors anymore, they come fitted with Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups at the moment.

ahh not a fan of the noisless is like a strat with it's guts removed

I like Lace Sensors because they're a bit dirrrty but I really don't like the Fender Noiseless efforts and the Cobalt ones. They're really lame.

Gilmour is back to the his old fender pickups (SD rewound them when he was working for fender in the 70s).
He only used EMGs for 2 albums, and that was only to stop interfearence from the lighting rigs. Apparently he found them to be a nessicary evil. Personally I thought he got pretty good strat tones from them
I have heard mothers milks mentioned a few times for Gilmour tones, dependant on body and fingerboard woods.
Definately slowhands for solo Clapton though.

Well, I answered about BKP pickups-this being their forum and all. I will say again that I have experienced no noise problems with my BKP pickups either in the Studio or live.

For what it's worth, if you get BKP wound RW/RP they will be hum cancelling in positions 2 and 4 off of a 5 way switch. That being the case they are pretty quiet in positions 1, 3, and 5 anyway.
