Laney VC50 212, it's the combo version of the VH100R!
AND IT'S $%ING AWESOME!!!!
Has some Sovtek 6L6 valves in it too, so more metal!
A clean and dirty channel so everything is covered, all the features that i wanted in an amp :D
...and for the grand total of £299!!!!

Woah, that's lots of buttons for the buck man. Congratulations, this seems an awesome deal.
Sure it's looking great. How does it sound?
Clips now!
-
Amazing!!
I like my GH50L distortion so i was hoping for it to be around the same kinda tone, and it is except this VC50 can go a bit heavier i think, but it is so much more versatile and sounds fatter than the GH50L, and has reverb (independent ones for both channels!)
It's pretty much everything that i want/need in an amp, i didn't know it had 6L6 in it till i looked in the back when i got it home  so that was a pleasant surprise!
All i need to do now is find an FS4 footswitch but i don't think they make them anymore apart from the ones which you get only if you buy a VH100R haha. I will ask the Laney man to see if he can get me one.
And as soon as i get an SM57 i will make clips!
Hahaha and something annoying has just happened whilst i am typing this, i just broke a string on my Ibanez
-
Nice buy Joe looks clean too! For £299 that's a steal! That amp is same as GH50L on the drive channel so the difference in tone is probably due to the valves and speakers. What speakers did you get? Would you say it can go heavier and tighter than your GH50L? I'm really tempted to swap out EL34s for 6L6s in mine.
Reverb is a nice feature I love how you can contriol level for both channels. 8)

It has those default Laney HH Premiere Vintage 60 speakers, not too good but it doesn't bother me at the moment, i'll change them to Vintage 30's in the future.
And changing to 6L6 is great, definatley more my sound, i was going to do it on my GH50L but then decided it would be a waste of time since i wanted a amp with clean and dirty channels anyway. And because there are no amp techs who will do it around here.
-
Looks like a cool amp; If it's 50W all valve, it must weigh a fair bit, too!
-
you can change between EL34's and 6L6's (aka 5881's) with the flick of a switch on the GH series. so you could do it yourself without a problem ;)
cool amp.
mine's better hehehe

Hahaha and something annoying has just happened whilst i am typing this, i just broke a string on my Ibanez
How much are you selling it for? :P
-
 good one Antag!
Ben: Yes it does weigh quite a bit haha!
Davey: If it had been like that i would have done it myself but according to some others like the Laney forum admin you still need to bias it properly after you have flicked the switch.
-
of course you do have to bias it, to get the most out of it, but it works without the bias...
but, you can pretty much do it yourself ;)
-
Haha well i'm not known for my terrific techy skills so i would prefer to leave this one alone!

Be careful when generalising 6L6 tubes with the 5881 which is a 6L6WGB type and NOT a 6L6WGC. The WGC is rated for a higher plate voltage than the WGB or 5881.
-
nice score, £299 sounds pretty decent for it, i think.
:drink:
-
It is, someone on the Laney forum just got one for £400 haha.
-
Well done Joe, you seem to have nabbed a bargain there.
-
^ ^ told ya!
-
Thats a good price for that amp Joe! I was going to get one of those a few years back and they were around 600 then.
-
Nice amp! Nice price - Where's the catch? :P
-
Haha there is no catch as far as i can see. Just a quality amp.
-
Nice amp! Nice price - Where's the catch? :P
That it came without the foot switch 8)

Since when was that a catch?
I only ever play Lead! :D
-
good score Joe. 6L6's really suit Laney's much better in my opinion. I love the lead tone I get with the 6L6's
-
I'm actually thinking of getting some 6L6 for my Laney.. how good do they sound for low gain stuff? I heard a really good Fender Supersonic last night, and it got me thinking about changing my EL34s out for 6L6.
-
It's fatter and not as spiky as El34's.
-
I sense a big movement to 6L6 from us Laney users. 8)
Joe/Steve can the Laney still do Van Halen-esque "brown sound" roar with the 6L6?
-
I haven't tried, but i never got a very good brown sound from my EL34 GH50L so i don't know really.

Weird.. I can get a good brown sound with my Charvel + Laney. I swear your speakers must've just sucked or something

I think so, yeah, A little less 'hair' than the brown sound but still pretty close

 i have to agree with that owning ahah.
-
ahhh joe you bar-steward, you had to post this during my furiously intense RE revision days!! (i had 3 nights to learn the entire syllabus, that'll teach me to pay attention  )
looks AWESOME, i was looking for one of these, but none turned up =( maybe i'll get one when i look for a valve amp (probably next year or the next after that haha)
bet it sounds mean too. tell me, is it a more modern sound? and what sounds can you get out of it? 80s thrash? modern metal? modern death metal? early death metal?
sorry for all the questions..... it must be known though. :)
-
been looking for one of these myself.. where did you find it? they dont seem to make them any more and there are none on ebay
-
Laney can do anything, all Laney amps i have tried are great at all styles but i think they are at their best just playing straight out heavy metal. I play mostly 80's/heavy metal so it's perfect.
There was one on ebay a few weeks ago but i haven't seen one since.[/code]

My friend used to use a VC50 not the heaviest sounding amp in the world but it had a really nice smooth lead tone.. The other guitarist was using a 5150II which kinda really stomped on it big time, still amazing amps though.
