Title: Power Amps
Post by: Bird on May 15, 2007, 09:03:51 PM
Anyone using power amps instead of heads or combos? COB use those VHT power amps with the Jackson preamps, and Frank Gambale uses the Carvin power amp with his tone navigator. Just curious if anyone has tried going this route.

I used to have an ENGL/Marshall EL34 100/100 rack setup, but it never sounded as good as a standalone head, imo.

Yep - I have and have done since 1988 when I got my first ADA

I like amp Heads too but I get a good sound or two from my rack
I use very little Fx (I do have a TC Electronic G Force) and try to keep the sound pure.

Fave power amp is my Marshall 9100 with 5881 valves

I use both-a boogie mark IV with a g system-this feeds 2 thiele cabs for 1 side of stereo setup-I take the stereo out from the g system into a boogie 2:50 power amp-this feeds a marsh cab loaded with v30's,which is 6-8 feet away..add a few BK's and it is tone monsta!!(cool setup..I can just lug the two thiele's with me and use live-the g and the 250 sit in a rack case along with a furman....mk iv sits on top-clean!!use patch chords...only have a cat5 cable and instrument cable to trip over!!

i've got a peavey classic 50/50 poweramp being used with a mesa V-twin preamp. Sounds pretty nice, could do with a closed back cab to run it thru tho...
