Hmmm... Karen Carpenter, Ringo Starr, Phil Collins... On balance, good or bad?

Our drummer sings harmonies - no problems with that.

Although he still isn't a proper musician of course  ;)

Triumph, Kansas, Spock's Beard and King's X are bands that immediately spring to mind when I think of drummers that can sing as well as play drums.

If they can do it, I say more power to em!

I dont think there's anything wrong with a drummer singing if they're good.

Bill Ward has sung on a black sabbath song as well

Let not forget about Don Henley from the Eagles. Has to be one of the best singer/songwriter/drummers out there. He could have made a tidy career out of doing either, but chose to do both, very well.

I have no problem with Drummers singing-it does look awkward but Don Henley does it ok(as has been said) but if Barry ( drummer in my band) sees this I don't want him getting ideas.

Levon Helm did it, so, on balance good.

Dave Clark (as in the Dave Clark 5)

Singing drummers thats just a silly idea

Rob...

OK so it took me 3 attempts to spell drummers properly (I preferred the spelling dummer anyway)

Dave Grohl is a pretty good singer/songwriter as well.  Don Henley + Phil Collins are up there as well.

In the words of Bill Hicks; "The beatles were so high that they even let Ringo sing on a few tunes!".

In general most drummers really aren't up to it but, as has previously been said: Then there's mr. Helm who did a sterling job!

I was watching a Spock's Beard DVD last night and I remembered another great drummer/singer: Nick DiVergilio.

Damm right they should 'branch out' to singing and writing.
Don Henley has always been a favourite of mine,. Just watch/hear him on the Eagles DVD :

"Hell Freezes Over"

Not only does he do both tasks very well, but his own songs like "Heart Of The Matter" and "Wasted Time" are classics ...

There used to be a video on YouTube of him playing an incredibly intricate drum part and singing lead vocals at the same time. He's a musical deity!

He plays guitar too, as if that wasn't enough talent for one man.

A drummer banging away with the occasional lean left to shout out some lines is one of the coolest things you can see in a band!

I am a drummer and i sung 3 songs every gig.As long as i get a head-set ,i have no problem with it.There is no difference between guitar player/singer and the Drummer/singer.
I am actually for a Full-time singer.But that's just me!
