I don't recall if this has been done recently, but since many of us change our gear frequently, let's see your current No. 1 guitar! (FELINE GUITARS, you can post a couple since I'm sure it's hard for you to chose!!)
This is my current work horse axe:
Yoshi is a Fender ash body with a Warmoth neck, Roland synth pup and a single Cold Sweat in the bridge. The tone is STELLAR, and I used it for most of the guitar duties in a recent studio session.
I may one day get a Feline that will probably topple Yoshi in the playability arena, but for now this is the guitar that is my go-to for writing and rehearsals.
For working on Dojo lessons, I use whatever happens to be on a stand.
-
My Epi LP Custom with a set of Mules. It just feels and sounds right. I might replace the bridge/tailpiece and electronics eventually for some higher quality ones, but for now its fine:
Though, I'm playing my parts strat a lot recently (even without a neck pickup!). Has a Trilogy in the bridge position now (actually a neck trilogy but I moved it to the bridge and it sounds great) BG pickups prototype s90 in the middle, and I'll eventually get an Irish Tour for the neck:

I was worried about the title of this at first!! However I am posting a picture of my favourite today! It is a 2001 Japanese Zemaitis clone with Emerald and Mule pickups. The amp is a Silver Jubilee (I'll take the plastic off the chrome one day!), and an Ear Candy 1x12. Both of them have Celestion Sidewinders and I can get an awesome sound from them.
-
At the moment this is my workhorse (thoroughbred). My Gretsch 6128T-TVP.
Sorry, no BKP's in there.

Here's my live rig - sorry the pic is a bit dark.
'65 reissue Epiphone SG with Riff Raffs and other upgrades, plus one of my 100w Laney Klipp heads and a 1960A Marshall cab with Celestion Vintage 30s:
But I guess my overall "Number One" is the one that's most precious to me for sentimental reasons, which also happens to be one of my best sounding guitars. I bought it as my third electric guitar, and my first Gibson style axe, after two Strats. You've seen it before but here's my '96 Gibson Les Paul Standard with unpotted Mules:

Favourite guitars come and go, but there's only one Number One. My green Gibson SG-X with a Riff Raff (excuse the mess in the background):
-
My standard rig at the moment, PRS SE Singlecut with a set of VHIIs and the Shiva with the 2x12 Heritage Cab. I do like the sound of the 4x12 Bogners but they're just so damn heavy. The PRS is very versatile and refined with the VHIIs and split outer coil option via push-push.

my beloved razorback with a Gold covered Ceramic Warpig in the bridge. great playability, great tone (pickups + mahogany), and killer looks!
LFR trem, (cr@p), 22 jumbo frets (nice :) ), set neck (also nice), and grover tuners.
tuned to somewhere in between C and B standard
-
^ Looks great, BM!!

Love the scratchplate. Like the colour... How's the 24 fret neck? [Do the extra frets make much of a difference?]
-
That SG is beautiful. Stunning.
Is it available in left handed?
Edit: I`ll post a pic of my Legra when it arrives
-
here it is my ONLY guitar
(http://a380.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/58/l_bdbeb69758877fd28f8590a18a7af183.jpg)
this was taken a few months back at my ex's house :( before i put the miracleman in.
Lovely guitar solid mahogany 22 frets set neck and best of all it was FREE also signed by chris poland especially forme & by matt o connor (awesome friend in america who gave me this beauty)

Thanks for the comments, folks! :D I always thought of my SG as an ugly duckling, but I guess it turned into a swan! It's had a couple of changes of scratchplates and tuners over the years and it's on its 5th pickup, but if I had to sell all my guitars this would be the one I'd keep. I've got another one the same (in black) but the green one has the magic, somehow.
The 24 frets don't make a massive amount of difference - of course, there's room for 24 frets on any SG because of that big gap at the end of the neck. It's easy to reach the 24th fret thanks to the deep cutaways. And I do think it looks good on a single-pickup guitar.
Unfortunately, the model was discontinued (in 2000, I think). I don't think it was available left-handed.
-
Shame that, its so nice.
Us lefties aren't left with much :(.
Ah well my legra comes in a few days so its all good!!
-
Heres my new Ibanez S1260, with a Nailbomb in the bridge.
sounds fantastic with my splawn and zilla_music cab.
-
Heres my new Ibanez S1260, with a Nailbomb in the bridge.
Nice! I'm not very clued up on Ibanez, but is that similar to what Andy Timmons plays?
-
yea the SA1260 is the model that got discontinued when the AT300 came out, it's what the AT300 was based on.. similiarly the JS1000 was based on the Radius models.
and reverse to that the RG was based on the JEM.
I've got a dimarzio cruiser in the neck which is the same model Timmons uses, with the nailbomb in the bridge.. im pretty close to his Resolution type tones especially when I use my Splawn with the Vintage 30 loaded cab which is the blue thing in the corner of the pic..
-
How much did that splawn set you back? The white tolex is great!
-
This is a guitar which I built myself in my school Technology labs, it's not quite finished, but it plays nicely so it will be my no 1 :D

That has to be one of the best original designs I have ever seen :!: Looks killer
-
(http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h117/neilerskine/DSC00178.jpg)
Nailbomb/Cold Sweat in it, this currently gets used for virtually all my recording and metal gigs, though I have a US strat with a WP bridge that I use in my punk band that probably sees more gigs.
I've just put a CWP/WP in my Fly classic too, which might become the number one.

Anyhow, a real nice guitar. Tim should be proud to supply you with a pickup for this beauty :!:

Here are my Number 1's :)
This is an old pic of my 1998 Gibson Les Paul Standard. The guitar now has a set of Chrome covered Mules in it :)

This guitar was originally black when I found it in a carrier bag at college. They were just going to throw it in the bin, so I gave it a good home. It has a set of Mothers Milks in it.
-
The wife's away so I pulled out some old favourites today. Not all of them have BK's (some are still original). They are:
Blonde 57 Tele with BK Black Guard Flattop set (best Tele set I've heard!)
56 Reissue Goldtop with PG Blues set, another amazing set of pickups from Tim.
53 58 Les Paul Conversion with Black Dogs - OK this is probably my number one
54 Goldtop - all original - great P-90 sound
63 Burgundy Mist Strat - all original
59 Esquire - Brown Sugar bridge and Gibson made Silvertone mini-Humbucker repaired by Tim (comes from Chris Issaks model).
I am very fickle so having a number one is hard (I was never really able to do it with women, and guitars are easier to cheat on!!!), but with the exception of my 57 and 60 Strat, these are some of my favourites (today  )
-
Real nice stuff there Phil.
Give us some tips on how to acquire such a fine collection!
-
How much did that 53 les paul cost and how much did it cost to convert? :o
-
My favourite guitar changes almost daily, depending on what style I want to play. However, my number one guitar is my Yamaha Pacifica 812W - an 18th birthday present from my folks and still with me eight years on. It's totally stock (unlike almost everything else I own) and will never be sold, no matter how hard times might get.
-
(http://www.twisted-transistor.com/MyPlexiAndLP.jpg)
This is my No.1 rig...
* '76 Superbass head (modded to lead specs & tweaked to my own taste)
* 1960A cab with 014 bass cone G12H-30s
* '91 LP std with Mules
I've also just bought a 6505, I'm picking it up later on - had to be done, it's metal in a box :D
-
sweet!what color is your paul...i cant quite tell if it is black or..blue?I have a '74 50 wt head..looks just like your 76 bass head...those 4 input jobs just look too cool 8)
-
I Really cannot decide on a number one, though it is probably my 1985 MIJ Fender Stratocaster '72 Reissue. Gonna take it apart this week probably and rewire it and reshield it, and most probably do a complete refret. It currently has a S****** D***** Hot Stack in the bridge (in when I got it, and I'm gonna get rid of it no doubt as I much prefer singles).
This is played through a 1973 Sound City L120 (w/ 6x Mullard EL34s, and Brimar preamp valves). Great sounding head, and has amazing cleans. The cab is a mid 70s FAL. Cost me £18 empty, and I slapped in two Celestion Vintage 30s.
Other stuff:
1971 Yamaha FG-150 red label.
Amazing acoustic, another great ebay purchase that sounds absolutely great, and a LOT better than most (if not all) acoustics I have ever played. Perfect for my style of acoustic playing. I recently fitted an undersaddle piezo which runs straight into an endpin jack so there were no serious mods to the guitar istelf.
1992 Ibanez RG550. MIJ in the same plant as my Strat (Fujigen). Has S****** D***** pickups in it too (again, in it when I bought it!) '59 neck, classic stack in the middle and a duncan custom in the bridge (IIRC anyway)
This is in excellent condition for its age, as when I bought it it had been sat in an attic for 8 years, so was all rusted up! Cleaned it all up and now plays, looks and sounds great.
I also own (but can't be bothered finding pics of)
1970s Hohner 12 string acoustic ( really nice guitar. Great looker and sounds killer)
Squier Affinity Strat (all replaced pups, and tuned to OPen G with 5 strings)
Richwood Strat copy (never used, for sale)
Peavy Indianola electro-acoustic (never used since I got my Yamaha, and is also for sale)
The reason nothing has BKPs in is because I cannot afford them at the moment, as all my money is going towards making my own guitar, which WILL have BKPs in when it is finished.
That's not really showing everything I've done and where I am up to, but if you want more pics or whatever then shoot me a PM as I have hundreds of progress pics so far.
-

the LP is black, sorry, 'ebony' if we're using Gibson-speak
I agree, it's tough to beat those old 4-input Marshalls. I love the MV JMPs too, but a plexi cranked is just heaven.
-
HEAVIER THAN HELL, that setup is KILLER!!
-
HTH, classy and classic rig you have there. Guess if girls would find amps and guitars sexy as we dudes do, they'd be lining up to speak to you after your gigs 8)
-
les paul w/ mules into a modded 72' marshall w/ 55hz G12H30's..
thats really gotta sound frigging huge, bet u can nail the kossof tone..
and cheers to ben for pointing out the splawn site to the dude who asked.. the splawn army must grow 8)

Good times, just got some photos back from my latest gig on saturday, can't see my sexy pedalboard, but...

That's me on the left with my gorgeous Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe through the quarter stack at the back - Marshall JCM900 4100 Dual Reverb head through a 1936 2x12 with Vintage 30's in. The 4x12 underneath isn't plugged in, that's the gigs cab and I always put my amp up on top of it for a bit more elevation.

Real nice stuff there Phil.
Give us some tips on how to acquire such a fine collection!
How much did that 53 les paul cost and how much did it cost to convert? :o
I have had most of these guitars for a long time. Because of that I really got them quite cheaply.
The strat cost me £575 in 1982
The 53 les paul was $2,500 in 1996, it was converted in the late 50's/early 60's and is the guitar on the cover of 'Atlantic Blues Guitar'
The 57 Tele cost $1,700 on eBay in 1999
The 56 Reissue cost $2,000 in 2000
The 59 Esquire cost $1,400 on eBay in 2000
The 54 Les Paul was left to me by my good friend Tom Tracy
As you can see, I have been buying guitars since the 80's, this is how I was able to get the collection I have. Also they are all players guitars, not collectors, so they are not as expensive. Only the 56 reissue has the original finish!
-
No pictures on me but mine is a Ibanez PGM301 with black pickup rings, a Ferrari sticker and a Zebra Bulldog pickup in the bridge.
Pictures will come soon.
Andy!
-
The '53 was a steal Phil!!! How cheap??? :o
-
My No. 1 at the moment is my Ibanez RG505 MIJ with old version Holy Diver set :P
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Sandman666/IMGP0598.jpg)
There's also my No. 2 which i havn't been getting along with recently but i think i will soon. My Tokai EX-85 Explorer Ltd Edition MIJ.
Also in that pic is/was my Laney GH50L and Marshall cab which has just been sold for my new Laney VC50:

You see, buying vintage guitars at that price point 10 and more years ago required a lot of balls. At these prices, we would all get the money from the bank today to buy them if they were offered to us.
I applaud you for that courage Phil, today you have an awesome collection and it will grow in value while you're having fun playing them. What else can one ask for :o)

Can I quickly suggest we rename this unfortunately named Thread?

She may be ugly but she sounds and plays beautifully.

that's gorgeous imo

I can't live without either one of these guitars. The Hendrix Tribute strat I bought new when they just came out, still have the receipt. 8)

Lovely guitars, but those Hendrix Strats are doing my head in! So it's a lefty Strat, strung as a righty, with the logos in mirror writing so it's the exact "opposite" of Hendrix's Strat. OK.
And Bird, you're right-handed. Shaman, you're left-handed and you've re-strung the righty-lefty guitar as a lefty?
PDT_030 I need to lie down.

Prs Standard 24, built in 1990. My number one for a long time was my Ibanez RG, but I buggered up the trem (which is now at machinehead getting fixed) but since I haven't been able to play that, It's been the PRS constantly. I've now grown alot more attached to it like I did with my RG. It's the guitar I always go to now even though I've got Strats and a mockingbird too.
-
That old Yamaha acoustic looks like a cool guitar, I bet it has a clear but sweet and broken-in sound.
Here's my #1 w/ camo Mules -

..ahh yes-weird deal for me-went to dealer..this had hung on wall forever-offered him 500 USD less than tag..he knew I was a lefty-strange exchange.."no, I want you to string it upside down...".."but it is upside down.." "i am a lefty...this is a righty...but it is modelled after a lefty...but I want it to play lefty..."etc...arrrgggh!anyway, he was happy to unload it on me..said all of his righty cutomers couldnt get the hang of dealing with the knobs in the way..WELCOME TO MY WORLD!
-
..said all of his righty cutomers couldnt get the hang of dealing with the knobs in the way..WELCOME TO MY WORLD!
 Yeah, I don't think I could handle the knobs being above the strings, it would definitely throw me. I did almost buy one of those Voodoo Strats, with a lefty neck on a righty body and a reverse-angled bridge pickup.
-
^ That's why you remove all the knobs and go au natural!!

Yes, the knobs on top definitely took some getting used to. I'm guessing that's why it wasn't a very popular model. I think they only made it for a couple years. :)

I'll never be parted from my knobs!

anyway, first one is Black Dog (Epiphone black beauty)

then on the right there's charley (Fender jap '62 reissue) & burst (Tokai Lover rock...gotta find out which one?)

all are getting BK's in
-
hmmm, very hard choice, can I have an exemption too as I own nearly as many guitars as Feline? :)
At a push, if I have a "go to" guitar, then it's probably my Jackson RR1T:
(http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/th.fd97b640e1.jpg) (http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?fd97b640e1.jpg)
It's not my nicest guitar, nor the most expensive, nor one I have a huge sentimental attachment to, but I love the neck on it & since it got a Holy Diver calibrated set it's been one of my favourite sounding guitars.
It wasn't a planned purchase (snapped it up for $1300 which was an absolute steal for a US neck-thru Jackson IMO), there are a few things I'd change about it, & for a while I hardly played it but the Holy Divers totally transformed it into the fire-breathing beast it was meant to be

les paul w/ mules into a modded 72' marshall w/ 55hz G12H30's..
thats really gotta sound frigging huge, bet u can nail the kossof tone..
it's Kossoff in a box that rig - just gorgeous. it does a pretty good stab at the Cream 'woman tone' too. 8)
btw, thanks to everyone for all the nice coments about my rig, it does indeed rock.
being a guitarist has got me female attention in the past but they certainly never comment on your rig - just imagine it... "I love the tone of those Mules into your old Marshall, it's just that classic Kossoff singing sustain all over. My place or yours?"

i never was keen on sunburst till i saw this. insta-love :)
i've never played a guitar like it, the action on it is pretty much perfect to me and my n00b like, inexperienced fingers

Lovely mate, I've only got the harlequin, but when it's cranked it has a lovely rich tone for one so small. The sound is very much vox-y, but when turned up it has a veery marshall sounding overdrive. Well worth the £500.
Just need a king street head & cab now!

You and me both. Can't wait to try the KS out at the factory again when I pick up my Little Rock :D
-
yeah still gas for a matamp as well
-
when are we having this night anyway lads? then you can see how badly I play
-
Is that Cornford loud enough for gigs?
I don't know much about them.
Cheers
-
nah the Harlequin is only 7 watts, though great for open mike nights & recording. For general gigging I recommend from their range the Hellcat head (not the combo though. I tried it & I don't think it's as loud...for some strange reason!) which is 35watts. I use to weant one, but I've been swayed by this forum to get a Matamp & I'll have it exactly as I want instead of buying into someone elses style....and the matamps cheaper

Here's #1 and #2...
The Ibanez RG570#1 was the first guitar I ever saved up for, as in; i got a pacifica for my 15th birthday... I always wanted an Ibanez! When I was 18 I got one!!! It's had two necks, the one on it at the moment is from a RG2020 or something, it's alot thicker than normal nezzy necks.
The BC RICH was a present from my lovely other half, it had an EMG Zakk Wylde set in it... i swapped over the 85 and the 81 and now it rocks somewhat hotter! I use it live because it cuts really nice, and the RG has basically been retired from live gigs now as it's been smashed to smithereens!

My favourite guitar. Had her 23 years now.Original pickups and electronics, added a Neutrik locking socket and an extra strap button. (http://www.bobelliott.co.uk/images/static/Aria01.jpg)

Here's my 2nd favourite, mainly due to the Warpig in the bridge!!

Nice to see the new guys jumping in and posting pics!

My Nailbombed Ibanez RGT42DX
Calibrated Nailbombs plus two extra pots for independant volume and tone control and five way pickup selector is now a three way output selector, so it's wired as per a Les Paul.
All pots are the pull/push switching type so neck volume pulls up to switch neck pickup wiring from series to parallel, both tone pots pull up to switch from .022mf orange drop cap to .047mf orange drop cap....bridge volume pot pulls up to switch bridge out of phase with neck
All of this makes for a wide range of sounds and it's an absolute TONE MONSTER......best sounding guitar I've ever had..by a mile 8)

AWESOME

Well this is my no. 1 just been BKPed as of today :D Very please with the result, instantly became a tone machine. It bleeds tone now. Just that i am not that satisfied with the "Battle-worn covers" did not turn out as great as the pic i saw.

What don't you like about the battle worn covers? I think the guitar looks awesome!
-
Dane, that guitar is to mutts! almot stempted to go at my SG with a sander this evening! What BKP's are they?
Sir, I salute you!
-
Well i like it but i expected it to be more like this
(http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/3458/industrial211om2.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
Looks more real and battled but still thats secondary, its the tone that im totally head over heels for. It bleeds tone.
And ya so sori, its a Mule with Alnico V in it.

The "X" marks do look a bit odd
-
dane i prefer the ones you got to the ones in the promo pic... :P
-
But if u all notice my neck pup the pole pieces are abit off.

They do look pretty far off.. :?
The strings look aligned way over toward the treble side of your fretboard - yet you have tons of room on the bass.
Does the top E string slip off the neck on a wide vibrato?
Don't take this the wrong way but could you post a picture of your nut (oh err)
Cheers.
-

It also looks like the scratchplate is aligned slightly too far to the bass side - which is making matters worse.
-
I think its the angle of the photo.
-
If polepieces are in wrong place consistently, then scratch plate is wrongly positioned
If strings are too far over to one side of neck then nut and bridge are out of line with respect to the centre of the neck
-
well now i realise it is out of line abit but it plays n sound fine. So won't i won't mess with it yet, till i find the need to i tink the problem is the bridge as i checked the nut is fitted nicely. Any advice if i feel da need to remedy this?

One possible fix would be to use a roller bridge (uses the same studs as teh stock tune-o-matic) - the saddles can be adjusted sideways as well as forward/back. Or get someone to file new slots in the existing bridge?
-
Def. #1 (even sans BKPS), well #2 also guess as have one in UK also. Till project is realised anyways.

Philly, found a second (from same guy in Colorado) and bought it as they are no longer made, was good price, and it's THAT fine of a guitar. And yes, same color, for now :)
Yep, rverb model of Knucklehead. Although it's 240 volt and in UK and I am in 120volt land of Texas.
Been, well, Loooooooooooooooooong story. But am in Texas and am prob. here to stay (sans trips back to UK to visit/help mum).
Been busy here and have lots going on.
As of now playing through a Bogner 1x12 with V30 and a Zvex nano and orig. Expandora and getting THE best 'crunch' tones have ever had :)
-
wow, welcome back nick!
-
Thanx Dave
-
Hello from me too Nick-I trust you are well.
-
Hey Steve, would'nt help to complain anyway now would it :)
Yeah, had a weird time but settled now.
Miss my mom but TEXAS is my home, no question now.
BTW, got REAL up close to Rev. Billy G last nite, like 20 foot. WOW that guy can PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He finished with a VERY beat up tele (norm not like my beast lol) with a removed neck pup. In the empty cavity was a crumpled filter cigarrette, classic! LOL. Played Tush, La Grange and Tube Snake like that! That guy IS God!
Loving the Zvex through the Bogner!
Should have some spare cash soon and to help a project prolly gonna get a 18 watter or similar, maybe somthing made by a company named after a Desert in California as they def. kick tonal butt.
Went to Austin to get the nano and the store had some serious amps, Bogner, Divided by 13, Rivera, Top Hat, Dr.Z etc.
I was shut into a 'sound room' and told to have at it, yeehaw :)
They had a Rivera K-Tre so I played that to see diff. with my Knucklehead, as it has higher gain stage (at ear blowing vol.)
Must say the Dr.Z and 13 REALLY impressed me.
Only have 1 FlatHead here in TX with me at moment but thats fine cos adore it. Have a Mk1 Expandora too which is a wonderful pedal.
May sell the Petrucci as no bond there. Need another axe and amp here, which will come, but yet not sure.
Also have amassed Sonar Producer, Reason, Wave Lab, DFH, Adobe Audition. So am keeping busy ;)
Nick

you sure it's the same, mine feels slightly thinner than my mate's LP [and he's defs got the 60s ST neck]..
...unless it's just variances between each guitar made...
