Hey guys.
I've recently gotten back intouch with a guy I was in a band with a few years ago. We get talking about guitars and he mentions that he's selling this guitar:

It's a 1976 Music Master that someone has added a bridge pickup to (currently a Hot Rails). He said there's a few dings and a bit of paint missing on the back, but other than that it plays well and is in good condition for its age (it's in its original case too).
He set a price of £300, but I dunno if this is a good/fair price or not?
What do you guys think?

Cool guitar. You don't see those every day. Love the color and the big seventies headstock. The price seems fair.

They aren't bad guitars (I had one as a spare when I was touring years ago), but I haven't a clue what they are worth in the UK. However they seem to be going for $500-$700 here so 300 quid is right in the ballpark. Have you tried it? If you have and like it, go for it!

Hey guys.
Thanks for the replies :)
I haven't tried the guitar yet, but I think i'll give it a go and see what I think. I know the guy pretty well, so he might even let me use it at a gig so I can hear it at volume through my own gear :)
IF I get it, I'll be replacing the Hot Rails (atleast) for something more 'traditional' of this guitar. What would anyone suggest?

The Musicmaster had a slightly different wind to a Strat or Tele pickup, but if I was going to put a traditional sounding pickup I would look at the Mothers Milk, but since you already have a set of them, what about a Slowhand? If you have someone who can use a router, then you could put in a Tele bridge pickup, perhaps a Brown Sugar.

Hi Phil.
I can't believe I'm thinking about pickup upgrades before I've even bought the guitar, let alone tried it!
I wouldn't have a problem in putting Mothers Milks in it if they'd be a good match, as the Strat my MMs are in is Mahogany, and this is alder. So chances are they'd sound more 'traditional' in the Musicmaster anyway :)

I would like to use this moment, to axe this question:
Phil, is there ANYTHING, you DON'T know about guitars?
Thank you.

How are the MMs in the mahogany bodied strat? It just seems a strange combo to me.

if you ask me, they sound pretty damn good!

The Strat has a 'sandwich' body. The main chunk is Mahogany while the top and bottom appear to be Ash. It also has a thick maple neck and a maple fingerboard.
Before I had the MMs in the Strat, I had a set of Alnico II Seymour Duncan Antiquities in it, and while they sounded ok, they were a little dull and too 'round'sounding.
I spoke to Tim about this and he thought that the brightness of the MMs would help, and it did :)

I don't know anything really about pointy headstock guitars! I never had a Charvel, Kramer or Jackson and the only Ibanez I went out of my way to get was a George Benson GB10. It's mainly Gibsons and Fenders that I know best.

You would think, but the guitar sounds superb, actually!

I would have always thought that Miracle man pickups in a mahogany body would sound great.
Would be one of my first choices......

Agreed, 'cept we're talkin about the Mother's Milk pup. PDT_008
