Title: '58 Korina V strap button positioning?!
Post by: Ted on May 22, 2007, 02:12:58 PM
I was hoping someone would be able to help me identify the best position for strap buttons on a Epi '58 Korina Flying V.

At present the guitar when worn with a strap is the worst balancing guitar I have ever played, awkward standing up and sitting down!!!

Anyone have any experience with this and have any tips with regards to relocating the strap buttons? I have bought two new ones which I plan to install myself - which I am a tad nervous about too. Any tips? I really don't want to crack the finish!

Thanks Ted

I think V is straightforward, one goes on the tip of the upper horn and the other right in the middle behind the neck heel, right?

i used to have a ibanez rocket roll II flying v and with the strap buttons in normal placement in nose dived like hell

so i moved it so the one on the end of the top wing was about half way down the wing

this cured all problems instantly

if you ask adam.m he will be able to show you a pic as he owns this guitar now.,

on a '58 V the strap buttons are in a different place to a '67: at the bottom of the upper horn, and the other is similar to a les paul.

look at that picture though - the lower horn is stabbed into schenker's leg. thats the classic V stage stance and gives great stability.

if i were you i'd fit straplocks and try that stance before drilling holes in your axe.

Awesome thanks, thats what I thought of doing, bit of masking tape and drill away.

I'm going to drill the rear strap button and see how that works out... :?:

i can say if you move it about half way down the top wing it will greatly increase stability for you

yeah the second strap button its already half way down the top wing.  Dave mustaine always seems comfortable playing his Vees, without having to do the Schnecker "wing in your balls" stance

try moving it back or forth a bit

what i recommend is pick your guitar up with the strap on the front button then rest the back end on your finger in different places and see where it balances the best
