Hi ! I sometimes listen to your insane guitar clips and it makes me think about which pickups I will put in the next buitar I will build / have built. Here are the specs :
Body : Mahogany + Quilted maple carved top
Neck : Maple + Two bloodwood stripes
2 Volumes, 2 Tones, Coil tap on each pickup (switch)
If you would say a pickup that's not in the poll, go for it !
I want a great rythm tone (chuginess ). I listen and play melodic death metal (Norther or Children of Bodom), viking metal (Ensiferum) and british heavy metal (like Judas Priest's Painkiller, the best HM album IMO).
What I want is being able to do chords and everything WITHOUT MUDDYING OUT :D kind of like an EMG active pickup with tone. I sometimes also play lead, and solo with a neck pickup. My neck pickup will probably be a mix of my bridge pickup and the Cold Sweat, for fluid legato technique and power. Also, I don't really like a too much compressed sound.
Thanks !

Miracle Man! :)

Thanks ! Why would you choose the Miracle Man ?

Thanks ! Why would you choose the Miracle Man ?
Because it's the best pickup for the job. It has the same output level as the 81, but with more tone, has a tonne of push to the amp, harmonic content out the wazoo, and a nice growly low end that isn't outrageous.

+1 on all of that.
After trying my MM loaded LP through a 6505 i take back all statements of how i want my emgs back.
The miracle man absolutely kills them
-
Sounds like you like a tone with plenty of mids in. The painkiller, without a doubt.
-
The MM seems that it'll do the job... is it scooped ??? I don't really like scooped mids, more balanced so I can add and low them with the amp.
-
I voted for PK very narrowly over MM, but on another day I might have voted the opposite. Both pickups are fantastic for metal & will cover the tones you've mentioned well.
If it's any help, there are MM & PK clips in my shootout (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7038) thread...

Antag is an authority on the Painkiller as well as the Miracle Man. I would advise listening to both, getting Tim's input, and then pulling the trigger before you drive yourself insane with indecision!
-
Yeah, I listened to them (nice playing BTW).
The different isn't huge... I somewhat prefer the MM, feels more crunchy than fizzy (not that the PK is fizzy but listen to the track painkiller and compare it to some Zakk Wylde playing and you'll notice the distortion differences). Looks like the MM clip will sound similar to my guitar :D (mahogany ROCKS !).

Definatley the Miracle Man, i had one in my Explorer and i played some Norther and COB with it.
-
Exactly the reply I was looking for :D !
-
i didn't vote cause every contemporary line BK will do it perfectly :?
-
The why do the Nailbomb, the Warpig and the Ceramic Warpig son't have any votes :?:
-
Because the Miracle Man will do the music that you mentioned the best and is generally aimed at that particular style.
It is often compared to the EMG's (mostly the 81) which is what you mentioned.
-
Please not forget that I am trying to obtain a great metal tone, and so it doesn't muddy, but I don't necessarily want the EMG sound.
Even though, they all look great !
-
BKP's don't do muddy.
-
BKP's don't do muddy.
they do.... in agathis
EVERYTHING SOUNDS MUDDY IN AGATHIS
actually no the air norton sounds great in the neck position in agathis
just everythings muddy in bridge
-
Don't buy an Agathis guitar then
Nobody even knows what that wood is.
-
agathis really sucks
the only wood worse than it is brazilian marupá that most brazilian guitar brands use
-
Yep. Lower-line BC Rich made from agathis aren't good. Their basswood are a little better (like the one I have... the change will be pretty dramatic :D ). What I meant by this... is that I don't have to have EMG tone or ceramic tone or anything.
Since I play mostly rythm, do you think the Miracle Man would be a good choice ?

yes i think it would be ideal

I emailed Tim to get his input. We'll see what he thinks about it :D .

Tim responded to me yesterday. Apparently, the MM/CS combo would be creat, but he also recommended me the CWP/NB combo. Has anyone in this forum tried it, and even better, owns them ?
