Title: Which pickup for whitesnake tone?
Post by: SAMLP on May 27, 2007, 08:28:24 PM
which pickup would be best for a whitesnake style 80s hair metal tone (eg. here i go again)

would it be possible to achieve this kind of tone with a miracle man?

cheers

What guitar is it going in?

I'd say a MM would be a bit too metal and crisp - you'll want something a touch more organic (i.e. an Alnico magnet rather than ceramic).

Edit:  FF beat me to the John Sykes reference  ;)

I'd agree with FF. If you're looking for that John Sykes sound it has to be a Cold Sweat. You'd be after a warmer sound than a MM would provide. Even though the Cold Sweat IS the John Sykes tone, he played a warmer mahogany guitar so maybe a Holy Diver might be better in this case.

cold sweat, of course
both holy diver versions will do it too
if want a more aggressive approach, go with painkiller

I suggest Holy Diver for this.
