Title: 7 stringers
Post by: crimesofpassionandy on May 31, 2007, 08:25:25 AM
I know this topic has been brought up before, but what other makes are there out there besides Ibanez and the usual suspects. I have an Ibanez RG1527 and a Petrucci 7, but both are made from Basswood and sound muddy and undefined, and am looking for something with a little more cut and bottom end.

Depends on the pricerange really.

Under Under 1000 you can get the Schecter Hellraiser, Agile Interceptor, LTD SC-607, etc.

Around 1500 you can get some great guitars, Mayones make some 7 string models, Black Machine make some superb guitars too, but he's got a 12 month waiting list and doesn't take any new orders. Any other custom builder will probably do a 7 string model aswell. ESP make a bunch of 7 string guitars to throw in aswell, I'd imagine BC Rich do too if you're into that sort of thing.

I'll chime in for Jackson here :) I picked up a Jackson 7 (DK-7 i think), off the eBay for £200, and it has a great neck- not too thin but not thick either, just right :) I'm unsure of their current 7string lineup, but there must be one or two.

How exactly is mahogany going to sound less muddy and more defined than basswood?

The only Better wood for 7 strings  Swamp Ash.
Therefore ,the Schester Loomis would be a choice.I still prefer the Basswood Ibanez guitars for 7 strings! The "neutrality" of Basswood gives you many possibilities with the right PUs and Amps! And i pefer a good Bolt.on anyday to Set-neck!

Does anyone know any sites to get a C-7/Hellraiser/Loomis?
I've been wanting one of them for a while, might get one in a few months if I can find one online

I tried Thomann, but they only seem to have the Omen

Erm, what about the Ibanez S-7320?

http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/71831

Mahogany body, ZR Trem (awesome)

If that was 24 frets i'd have it in an instant. And it'd have nailbombs in it 5 minitues later.

Nah, unfortunately it's the bloody silly angle that the photographer took the shot from. The body is about the same size as a Strat.

Sexy finish. Will my guitar get the photo treatment?

I`ve never wanted a 7 string but its really intrigued me (for the future).

Thanks for all the ideas with 7 strings guys. I looked into them all. I've found an Ibanez 7 J Custom over in the States which I have just bought. It has a Mahogany body with flame maple top. If anyones interested, I'm now selling my 6 month old Musicman Petrucci 7 to fund it. It's fully loaded, with piezo bridge, matching headstock and Bare Knuckle Painkiller and Cold Sweat pickups. It's finished in Red Pearlburst and it's mint condition. This is a £2500 in the UK. Offers around £1300.
