Title: Interesting day at work *Robbery*
Post by: Transcend on June 04, 2007, 08:24:16 PM
Well today i was sat there at work credit checking at connecting phones for customers and the police come in finger print me and ask if i heard anything

i then find out that the store front had been robbed of £4k worth of mobile phones ten minutes beforehand.....

the stupid thing is the people that did it came in complaining about cashback problems....theyd sent there bills in 5 days late

They then gave there phone numbers so that the store staff could bring up there details and find out why they hadnt been paid the cashback

then because they were told they didn't qualify it because they were out of the promotional period they proceeded to go behind thecounter and steal 18 phones including n95s k810is blackberrys etc

the store front staff were so stupid they didnt even press the alarm button or call the manager/police or come into the office in the back to ask for help or to let anybody know.....

but all losses are covered by insurance and we gave the police the customers/robbers addresses and cctv footage of them doing the robbery and of them driving away.

Good story!
Who hands over all their personal details and _then_ robs the shop?
What a bunch of Divs!

Only dumb if the police can bring a case against them!

If they walk away or get "rewarded" for their ordeal - who is the winner then?

I do hope that they get done for it.

well theres plenty of proof with the cctv footage of them doing it and them driving away plus the statements of the store front ex employees.

By the evidence that is being given here by Hate Growth it would be a pretty stupid decision not to prosecute them, i mean they have footage of them doing it.

Plus the Police can just ring the offenders up and ask them to come down the Station!

These guys don't exactly sound like master criminals do they? But they'll probably get let off with a £50 fine because the courts are too busy sending someone who dropped a cigarette on the pavement to prison.

They wil probably be sent off on a nice holiday becasue it is so stressful having those nasty poice types knocking on your door when you are underprivileged

If they took you fingerprints, I hope you make sure that they are removed from the database when they rule you out !

Rob...

There might be an issue with Insurance cover:if they simply picked up the stuff and strolled out, the store's policy might not cover it as many shops policies only cover theft where the entry or exit was by forcible or violent means. A common misconception is that shops are covered against shoplifting-with one or two exceptions, they are not.If, on the other hand, the blaggers used threatening behaviour the store might be able to get it paid by the Insurers as policies will cover the stores in those circumstances. The missus had a situation similar to that a while back(she owns a shop you see).

Hmmm.... reminds me of something that happened to me 5 years ago, where shops are not actually insured for shoplifting

I had an Ibanez Jem 7 V WH in a local music shop where they were supposed to be selling it for me on a commission.
Someone walked into the shop , picked it up and legged it out the door.

Turns out the shop was not covered by insurance for the theft as no forced entry was done (as 38th Beatle pointed out). Sadly the shop CCTV was not wired up as they had just redecorated the shop and had failed to rewire it back in as well. There was CCTV in the street but it was pointed the wrong way- at car number plates, not at people on the street.
I did my own investigations but could get nowhere with it.

Shop refused to pay me any money towards the loss of my guitar.
Told me it was my tough luck........
Sadly they were my landlords for my workshop which was located behind their shop, so could effectively hold it over my head - suck it up - or get out
I was less than impressed - led to a big falling out with the shop owners.

Lesson of that story is that if you are going to leave a guitar to be sold in a shop - make sure you have a signed agreement that will cover you for damage or loss as well as their responsability to pay you if they sell it.

I think it's unlikely that much/anything will come of it... i've been in plenty of situations where we've caught shoplifters (supermarket, stealing cosmetics and alcohol), and have multi-camera CCTV footage of them, the police will take them away in handcuffs but nothing will happen. We've only had one prosecution in about 3 years, and at the peak, we were having 2 or 3 big shoplifters a day! The police are pretty rubbish, but they probably have better things to be doing than dealing with shoplifting.

At least you're alright though! I once had my arm trapped in a car door (stolen car, no less!) whilst they drove away!

Always makes the day a little more interesting though :)

Reminds me of the dumbass co-worker at the petrol station I worked at during my Uni days.  Two of his mates ripped the place off (all the back room/safe stuff) while he was working a shift.

Where his story failed was that he claimed they broke in through the (metal reinforced) back door using a crow-bar to wedge the door open.  However, all the marks on the door were on the INSIDE

The cops took five minutes at the scene before they'd figured it all out and hauled his ass down to the station.
