Thanks. Can it clean up well or is it brittle.?
-
For a ceramic pup it cleans up surprisingly well.

BUMP
i'd like to hear a CS thru a jcm800 too :P

I can do a clip through my JCM800 100w head as soon as I get my Cold Sweat bridge delivered :)

BUMP
I'd like to bring this up again even if the thread is already a bit rusty.
I still couldn't find a CS Bridge clip playing a JCM800. I'm really curious how this would sound (especially with a medium gain setting). Most CS Bridge clips here on the board are played through modern hi-gain amps...
Anyone can help me out with that?
-
I haven't got a genuine JCM 800 but I will do a video clip in the next day or so of the Lion I am making Will (with Cold Sweats) through a couple of JCM style amps or modules.
I'll keep you posted!
-
Thanks a lot, I highly appreciate that! Looking very much forward to your clips!...
Could you please to them with low, medium and high gain settings?!
-
Okay - here is the first clip
I am using a Bassman and a plexi sound - although the Plexi gets pretty JCM800 like in some ways

I changed my setup and used a Shure Sm57 into the camera mic jack to see if it could be better than the camera's own built in mic - sounds big which is what I wanted
Hope you like!

I'm sat here lusting for that guitar Jonathan.

Thanks a lot for the clip!
I'm having a really hard time making up my mind about the CS.
On the one hand I really really love the rich and saturated sound.
On the other hand the CS bridge sounds a bit tame in the mids to me. Eventhough I know that the CS is not mid scooped, most clips seem to lack a bit of the mid bite I expected.
Its hard to describe. The mids are definitely there but the sound very "round".
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'm afraid not  This is kind of hard to describe as English is not my native language...
Anyway, you are very welcome to share in case you have any more clips...

I know what you're talking about and this mainly depends on the amp and guitar.
To me it would make sense if we could hear a decent CS clip recorded with a real Gibson LPC/S. Wood does make a lot, lot of difference and Les Pauls are known for having tons of mids already, so that's why the CS sounds perfect in a Les Paul, very well balanced (which makes a lot of sense).
In the clip it sounds like some parts of the guitar are made from maple and not from of mahogany, but I'm not sure (I'd like to know more of this). Maple definately gives the guitar a brighter attack with more 'snap', which I can definately hear in this clip. A mahogany neck on a full-bodied (mahogany body/maple cap) LP, gives thicker mids from itself. The neck is one of the most important things.
However, in this clip you can notice that the pickups are open-poled (not closed nickle/chrome), which also plays a part in the more 'edgy' tone here.
You can still definately hear it's the CS (which I like), especially in the part where more gain comes into play (which is the CS at its best). It's not a clean alnico V tone monster (use other pickups for that stuff), but it does sound great clean as well.
These pickups sound different in different guitars, but always with that BKP character.

I've not listened to the clips, but Feline's Lion (which I think will be Will's here on the forum) has the same contruction as a "real" Les Paul. Mahogany back and neck with a maple top...
Jon's own Lion also has this same contruction and Cold Sweats.
-
The Lion in the clip has exactlty the right construction for a Les Paul
Mahoganty back, two piece American maple cap and a 3 piece mahogany neck with an ebony board
I believe this is what John Sykes' Lp has - certainly correct for that period
We do have another similar one that has a 3 piece maple neck rather than the mahogany which will be like some of the othr LPs from the mid 70s where they turned to maple as the neck wood.
It should give a "stiffer" and less compressed tone - absolutely huge in some ways

Well, it's real fun to hear the CS bridge in this video clip. I can recognize the character/tone of the pickup, although the fact that it's open-poled, together with the unpainted body/neck needs to play a part in the overall tone as well. It makes the tone slightly more agressive in the higher mids, a tad 'harder' and therefore a little bit less focused on its mids, as pop referred to say.
If you want more mids and still kind of the same tone as you'd get with the CS, than the Painkillers might be worth a try.

or the Crawler - plenty of mids in that baby.

It's not quite a Marshall, but here's a video clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHgz3Z38PX4) of me playing a coldsweat bridge through a Sansamp on a high gain Marshall setting.
Also the guitars on these tracks (http://www.last.fm/music/World+Is+Static/World+is+Static) were recorded through a Marshall TSL. (Less mids than I normally go for, but I was trusting the engineer's judgement) These are coldsweats double tracked with a Painkiller bridge.
Hope these help. :)

uhm... the only thing that CS and PK have in common is the ceramic magnet, at least in my hears... PK are much more aggressive and percussive.
