I can get my hands on a reissue head (2203) for £350. Shall I go for it or hold out for an original?
It has an effects loop for my boss gt8 but I`m not sure.
Helppppppppp

Damn wish i could get one for that much money... seriously want a JCM800. Anyway is it in good condition? when were the Valves last changed etc. stuff like that you need to find out. Cause you don't want to have to get a Valve replacement virtually straight after you buy one...

I think 350 quid is a great deal! You should go for it! They sound great, but you shoud have it serviced by a qualified rapairman if you buy it. A lot of them are biased to cold and the result is a cold, sterile sound. Also, if you find it to bright you should definitely do the bright clip mod. It's simple, reversible and sounds great (I did it on my 1981 50W model).
Here's the link for the bright clip mod:

Actually, when I buy a used amp the first thing I do is take it to a repairman and have the valves changed. When you buy a used amp you never know how the valves are biased and this affects the tone a lot.
Just my opinion though :D

Yep good condition. Just a few rips on the bottom which can be glued or something. Will it sound really full? What are they like compared to originals? Should I be worried about the output transformer etc? It was serviced about 10 - 12 months ago.
Seems alot of amp for the money.
-
dude buy it definately. if you don't like it sell it for twice what yu paid for it and get an original
-
I have no idea what I`m gonna run this through!!
-
a 1960B Marshall Cab
-
I was thinking maybe a used Marshall cab. They go for £200 usually in good nick. Could change speakers out for G12H30's or something.
So I shall go for the amp yes??
If its not my bag, I`ll sell it on here for a reasonable price :)

What exactly is a valve bias?

do yu really need a 4x12? i'd get that framus 2x12 that comes with v30s... for £200
-
I`m not sure whether the V30's will mike it too bright and trebly.
Tom's cab would be good but its only 60w capacticy.
Should I pull 2 tubes maybe?
Can't think of many other speakers that would work with a 2x12.
-
That's a REALLY low price. Get it bought ;)
-
Should I pull 2 tubes when I get it? Will cost less to retube in future and I can drive it harder, plus I can have more speaker options.
Also, I`m worried it will sound weak compared to an original due to the output transformer.
-
£350 is a great price but I'd hold out for an original - if you're patient you'll get a 70s master vol JMP for that price (or certainly another £100). the original will appreciate in value where the reissue won't for a long time.
-
i'd jump all over it and then turn it into a fully custom monster. Mods mods MOODSS!
oh... and wouldnt a 1960B (with g12t-75's) have sharper trebel than v30s?. I thought g12t-75's had emphasis on high trebel and low bass, while v30's had emphasis on mids...
-
I use a JCM800 with a 2x12 with v30's. it doesn't sounds overly bright.
-
I've got an old JCM800 combo which I've stuck V30s in, though I've modded the preamp quite a bit so it's more plexiish and considerably less trebly so probably not the best to comment on how they sound together. How it is now is great sounding though ;). I basically took out some of the treble peaking bits and pieces in the preamp and fixed it up, since it was pretty messed up (got it cheap though). Stick an overdrive in front of it and it's the dogs, I found the stock preamp to be a bit too trebly for my tastes.
-
I just can't believe you haven't bought it yet
-
Original, aaaaalways original!
The reissue 800 heads are utter garbage.
-
Utter garbage? How so?
Stupid Tom keeps making me want a Laney GH
