yeah, 5150s kick ass. i was on a budget and got this, and with the re-tube and re-bias it sounds damn good. plus i love the clean on this, which is something you sacrifice with other high gain heads.
EDIT: You may want to look into the JSX as well as the 5150. its more of my kind of amp, and its really good at what it does. i dig it a lot, its reall fat, rich, and full, and has good clean tone. if i had $1200 to spare, i would own one. trust me.

I understand the Ibanez, the Kramer, the Eggle? But what's that gorgeous V!?
That's a neon bass clock on the wall.
Hey I havn't seen that Eggle since just before christmas (gerrr I still want it)
I thought so, but at the same time I thought, if Dave got a Legra I would have seen it :p
The Red HBE pedal is a Power Screamer. . . Can never have too many Overdrive pedals to hand

I think they are available in various colors, HBE pedals ROCK big time!!

The 2 guitars you mention were built for me by a Luthier in leeds called Dennis Elvidge. . Yes they were based on Knopfler's Pensa Suhrs. . they totally kick ass!!

No BKPs?????
:?
You could sell some of your fx pedals for a set, you can't seriously need all of those
Plus I don't need new pickups. What I have works for me.
..why are you even on this forum then? :P Fair enough though, I dont see the need to have BKPs in all my guitars if I can get great tones from other manufacturers.. in fact I have a set of BG Pickups vintage 60s for my strat on its way :D
I don't own any BKPs either - I respect them, and plan to get them in the future - But at the moment, finances won't allow...
Still - This is a great place for general gear talk and learning about lotsa shizzle.

You should try some then, you wont want to keep the old ones in there!
I can't understand guitar players coming in here, hearing all the great things about the products that this forum is all about and reading how happy it makes players when they get some and still don't own any! Even more confusing, some give advise on them that they haven't had any first hand experience of!!!! :?
+1 Johnny.
and Mr. Ed, if/when you do take the plunge, you might find that you dont need a couple of those pedals. (then again, you might not).

The M134 is a fantastic chorus unit. Listen to the "wet" parts of my HD clean clip (about 0:53 in) - maybe not to everyone's taste but I like the sound very much :)
How much did both of you pay for yours, and where did you get them from (so i can gauge how much i should save up)?

Well... I have really bad GAS but I cannot justify changing my pickups when I have absolutely no quibbles about my sound. It seems like a waste of money and changing for changings sake and that's not something I'm in the line of... much.
I am more than happy with Seymour Duncans, I think too many people are quick to slate them. Fair enough, if you've had a bad experience than that would sour your taste... but I haven't. Ever. They've only ever been great for me.
As for the Lace Sensors, BKP's don't meet my needs whatsoever there - I wanted a real singlecoil sound but without the hum that reacts a lot better to my high gain amp. That's Lace Sensors aaaaaall round.Quote from: sambo+1 Johnny.

Nah, no pickup could ever replace my pedals. I #$%!& love them!
Yup, my basic tone is classic - my clean is clean enough without being sparkley and Fender-like (a class part of the JCM900) and the dirties are #$%!& filthy. :DQuote from: opprobrium_9*drools*
We thank you. 8)
QuoteHow much did both of you pay for yours, and where did you get them from (so i can gauge how much i should save up)?
I've had mine a while, but IIRC I got it from GAK (http://www.gak.co.uk)
A quick search around the internet shows that £150 seems to be the going rate (I'm sure I paid less than that though). Yes, it's double the price of a Boss, but it's also twice as good (I had a CE5 before) :)
Something worth pointing out - you do get an 18v power supply included with it (it uses 18v or 2 batteries). That's very good if your pedal board power supply only has 9v outputs.
You should try some BKP's out before you make a statement like that, you will probably realise why the guitarists here buy them!

You just wanted to mention it again because you like it so much

I didn't mention the pedals - they are a Klon Centaur, HBE Twighlight Drive and HBE Power Screamer
The amps are a McIntyre Bluesmaker 20w with an Avatar 2X12 (Eminience Tonespotters), MiniMat with 1x12 G12M cab and Marshall Silver Jubilee 50 with Ear Candy extension cab and Celestion Sidewinders in both.
i like the borders around the inlays on the Birch - nice touch!

You also didn't mention that the Twilight Drive blows away the Klon. The Klon sounds so 'diode'ish and inorganic compared to the Twilight Drive. When you use the OD and boost at the same time on the Twilight Drive you get the same level as drive as the Klon, but it's warm and tuneful, not shrill and edgy like the Klon. This may be due to the active buffer in the Twilight Drive? Dunno. But the bottom line is the Klon got pwned!!!
Klon reputation .... NOT DESERVED!!!

I had a really hard time finding a PRS that I liked and I eventually got mine from the states. I wanted a ce24 as I like the unfinished neck, but couldn't find any that weren't £1400 or above. The one from the states came in at around half that including the import tax. I know it's not uber cheap, but I definitely think it was worth going that route.

There are lots of different Strat necks though! 7.25", 9.5" or 12" radius, big or small frets, V shapes, C shapes, different nut widths, fat necks, thin necks - something for everyone. Of course, it's bad news if the shape you like is only available on some Custom Shop model...

Yeah I really like white pickups in the dark red guitar. It's quite unusual, but it works. I also like how the finish of it goes darker with time. I found the Raines on ebay and it was pretty much an impulse buy. It does have a few flaws (overfinished, pretty bad high fret access), but overall it's a very good and very unique guitar.

No BKP's in my guitars yet, so I feel almost guilty posting here. But curb your anger, friends, as my Nailbomb bridge and MQ neck will be arriving in a matter of days, and they will be going in to the Epi Dot (which shall also be receiving a Switchcraft switch + jack, CTS pots and Gibson guitar wire).
But I'll post anyways, for poops and giggles ;)
But of COURSE! Red-silver-blue is the HOLIEST of trinities :)
I've heard every single-coil BKP clip ever recorded, and all I can say is this;
If pickups were drugs, BKP's would be the high-quality cocaine cut with some top-shelf heroin and a dash of extacy - everything you want and more... and an orgasm... but the Lace Sensors are just straight up coke. None of that erection-inspiring mojo. Just the pure stuff.

The G-system consists of two parts, basically. The controller thingie and then a standard 19" rack unit, i.e. "the brain" :) You can keep the rack unit attached to the controller, and have everything in one place, or then detach the unit and keep it in a rack case separately.

Nah fraid not. It's to prevent the strings ringing out behind the nut when playing staccato stuff. The guitar is so damn tight sounding with the hairband there.

That can be the trouble with reverse headstocks
You have to b careful that the string lengths behind the nut going to the machinehead are not the same as any fretted note otherwise you can get adrone note that rings when you dont want it to
I made a great guitar years ago that did just that and it was a D note which was most inconvenient at times although very cool when soloing in that key
Cheers :)I guess I'm the only one who thinks it looks hideous then :oIt's not my cup of tea, although I wasn't going to say so.
Despite the looks, I'd bet a lot that it plays and sounds incredible.
EDIT: Lew, I actually think it'd be pretty cool with a black pickguard.
(as you can see I couldn't get the colour quite right. It's pretty damn complex!)
If you measure the length of the string behind the nut to where it hits the headstock you can copy that distance from the bridge saddle to the imaginary fret on the same string and predict which overtone you will get. That can be the trouble with reverse headstocks

Yeah, it seems to be an inherent problem in the blackmachine reverse headstock design. I know Pin, and Dez (lepers_meesa) both do the same trick. It's note-worthy that the B6, with it's standard headstock, doesn't have this problem.
If you measure the length of the string behind the nut to where it hits the headstock you can copy that distance from the bridge saddle to the imaginary fret on the same string and predict which overtone you will get. That can be the trouble with reverse headstocks
You have to be careful that the string lengths behind the nut going to the machinehead are not the same as any fretted note otherwise you can get a drone note that rings when you don't want it to

Because the tension on the string will be the same right along its length - it will be entirely proportional
on a normal headstock it is the other way round and the ringing note will sound like a high harmonic rather than a fundamental note
Looks tidy now
Your little muter thingy on the first fret doesn't = for touchstyle does it?
I can't believe more people don't play touchstyle...
Nah fraid not. It's to prevent the strings ringing out behind the nut when playing staccato stuff. The guitar is so damn tight sounding with the hairband there.
It's not my cup of tea, although I wasn't going to say so.
Despite the looks, I'd bet a lot that it plays and sounds incredible.
EDIT: Lew, I actually think it'd be pretty cool with a black pickguard.
(as you can see I couldn't get the colour quite right. It's pretty damn complex!)
It's finished :D

It's finished :DPlease believe me when i say, I would kill a man for a rig like that.

Which BKPs if any in the Wolferls?
Well, since this has been revived, my amp rig now looks something like this, + Axe-FX Ultra.
Which BKPs if any in the Wolferls?
shhhhhh.....None yet!
I had a MQ in the STP, but I cannibalized it for the Tele.
I'm thinking they're both gonna get Nail Bomb/Mississippi Queen, or Nail Bomb/????
Suggestions welcome. All I know is I don't like the Cold Sweat neck, and I love the Nail Bomb bridge!
Aha! So what are your impressions of the Axe? Have you dialed it in yet? Using its amp sims at all or still the heads?

Love it, just using it DI'd at the moment, and I'm very happy with the tones and feel of the thing. These were done with it:

Mark.
I don't know if this really counts as a "rig" as it's just guitars, stomp-boxes and combo amps but anyway this is my set-up... and what looks to be Musical Fidelity X-series CD player and amp. Nice hifi! :)(http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3588/3452233085_65601ba56e.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr_atrocity/3452233085/)

I can barely comprehend the braveness in perching those guitars like that.

Here's my current, simple set up - 1962 CS relic strat in LPB and a Martamp deluxe:

I just thought you'd relic'd the room to match.
The reality isn't as good as that. We used to keep a couple of chinchillas in that room and one of them ripped the wallpaper off.
Beautiful Strat too, LPB is one of those colours I think always looks "right".
A Caparison player is awesome in my books.
