Gibson Flying V: Custom Re-Finish (self), BKP Warpigs, Concentric pots. This baby is my one and only. I have never loved another guitar like this one, and this muthaf*cka has my own blood in the finish. Cant get much more metal than that, can you? :twisted:

Recording Stuff

Audix i-5. this thing is as much a part of my sound as my amp. i love this mic. great bass response, insane $%&#ing sound reproduction. durable as all hell too. can be a substitute for a hammer.

Awesome for recording best things i ever bought. they work insanley well for a home studio.

Cubase SL 3. use awesome program, i know it backwards and forewards. love it. not much to see, so enjoy the screenshot.

Drum mics. cheap $200 kit, but worth every penny. the tom/snare mics are mediocre, and the kick blows as a kick, but its one of the best floor tom mics ive ever heard, and the 2 overheads are worth the money alone. great sound production, i use them for very low volume recording of guitar cabs.

MXL 9000 Tube mic. pretty good for vocals, but truly excells at recording clean and acoustic guitars.

A couple of cheap MXL mics i bought when i first was getting into recording. The pencil mic is ok for high hats, but thats it cause it adds a metallic sound to anything you mic up with it. the barrel condenser mic served me well when i was recording some war sounds for my album, i hooked it to a laptop and the firebox and went nuts with a couple of my guns and dry ice bombs up in the mountains. haha.

funny you ask, the whole half stack was only $1200 (US), plus about 175 for the tubes. biased it myself, so that was free. in total ive spent somewhere around $8,000 in 3 years on music gear alone.

plus the 5150 is just awesome.

I dont really like the mesa tone and marshalls, well i love marshalls but they just arent aggressive enough for me

EDIT: You may want to look into the JSX as well as the 5150. its more of my kind of amp, and its really good at what it does. i dig it a lot, its reall fat, rich, and full, and has good clean tone. if i had $1200 to spare, i would own one. trust me.

i did look into the jsx but they cost far too much here i can get a used 5150/5150II for about £300 here while a used JSX is still about 5-600

LP has a set of Mules. The cab now has 2 G12H speakers in it.

Setup is as follows, peavey 6505+ head, ibanez 4x12 cab (stock speakers, looking to upgrade to celestions, but it still sounds good) ocasionally use a digitech whammy pedal and mxr super compressor, oh and if you play fast enough the tv even powers up (thats a joke btw) and you can see to the side i have a cheap p-bass for help beefing up recordings.

Recording with a shure sm57, will get another mic in time, also use a line6 toneport ux1 going into an emu 1820m soundcard/io box (will be upgrading to a pro tools 003 rack setup soon :-)

Main guitar is a limited run jackson slsmg, mahogany neck through, flame maple top and peghead veneers and all over binding (looking to get a bone nut installed to match the binding) has a matched set of covered miracle man humbuckers, they were distressed finished, it started to wear out so i painted them matt black (which is also now wearing out)

My second guitar is a dean cadillac select, mahogany with set neck, quilted maple veneer with all over binding, changed the gold hardware out for black which i think pops nicely :-) stock pickups but im looking to install a matched miracle man set of uncovered humbuckers, matching the zebra pattern.

no, i accidently cut myself on a knife when i was doing the refinish and it soaked into the stain.

the only thing i MIGHT of changed would be th pups to ceramic 'pigs...maybe.i have MMs in my dkmg an they sound great.
though im a bit depressed now. :cry:

interesting that! i just sold my standard SLSMG, which is a satin finish as opposed to gloss, and without the body binding.

are there any other differences other than that?

it was a really nice guitar.

Post by: Window-Licker on June 29, 2007, 06:20:39 PM: About the jackson slsmg i did some digging around a while back on the jackson forums, apparently they made about 50-100 in a red stain and 50-100 in the black stain, For being a limited run its abit shocking that it came with pretty much standard parts, emg hz pickups, standard jackson tuning heads, standard (unbranded) tune o matic. I think the only difference is the finish, flame maple body and headstock veneers and the binding, great guitar to play though, just has a nice feel to it.

In saying that though i think i do preffer the action on the dean cadillac, but it just feels cheaply made (it is korean i suppose) specially dont like the neck joint (sharp line of contrast between the wood grains whereas the jackson kind of blends together)

that other eggle they had in stock sounded pretty similar unplugged to mine, i thought. so much so that i didn't buy it. If they still have it, that is.

The Brown Les Paul is the one thats really sweet. . best sounding Paul i ever come across. . . i got this one from the band Shed Seven. . was used by Paul Banks on many of the album recordings.

I had a feeling it may be a Power Screamer, but HBE do so many pedals with the mini toggles etc I wasn't quite sure :)

They must've totally changed their colour schemes as my Power Screamer is dark green.

I have been after a model name for these things for a while coz i cant have people keep calling them ravelle's - i have altered the fernandes design enough for it to have its own name

ANyway i was stripping the first one down yesterday to get it up to the current standard of my instruments and it has a big V inlayed on the neck. So i might start calling them the 'Wez Venables Vendetta', ignoring the fact that dean have a model with the same name for now.

Can anyone guess which graphic novel i have just read??

Now i just need other cool words beginning with V for other models i might produce - time to get the dictionary out!

Its great. Really smooth fretboard. the neck is obviously much fatter than on the ibanez but its still easy to play on. Not been playing it much these days since i got my new Ibanez and its missing a G but when i get some cash for new strings ill give it a whirl in my new amp.

Nope, I contemplated a Sinner set for the Strat but it's too expensive. At some point in the future, when money's less of an issue, sure... but right now it's not feasible. Plus I love the way every single thing (apart from a sodding noisy delay pedal) sounds so I don't see the reason to change.

I was actually this close *makes tiny little gap between thumb and finger* to buying a Riff Raff for my Tokai SG... but then I had to sell it to raise funds for a new bed so that idea went down the cr@pper.

I do. Every single pedal on there gets used... even though I'm lead guitarist in my band, at times I do end up playing some songs alone and so I like to fatten rhythm parts with effect jiggery pokery. Plus I don't need new pickups. What I have works for me.

..why are you even on this forum then? :P Fair enough though, I dont see the need to have BKPs in all my guitars if I can get great tones from other manufacturers.. in fact I have a set of BG Pickups vintage 60s for my strat on its way :D

Well... I have really bad GAS but I cannot justify changing my pickups when I have absolutely no quibbles about my sound. It seems like a waste of money and changing for changings sake and that's not something I'm in the line of... much.

I am more than happy with Seymour Duncans, I think too many people are quick to slate them. Fair enough, if you've had a bad experience than that would sour your taste... but I haven't. Ever. They've only ever been great for me.

As for the Lace Sensors, BKP's don't meet my needs whatsoever there - I wanted a real singlecoil sound but without the hum that reacts a lot better to my high gain amp. That's Lace Sensors aaaaaall round.

Nah, no pickup could ever replace my pedals. I $%&#ing love them!

The M134 is a fantastic chorus unit. Listen to the "wet" parts of my HD clean clip (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6459) (about 0:53 in) - maybe not to everyone's taste but I like the sound very much :)

Cheers guys, looks like the winner is there :) The section i like most is the one from around 1:10, with the chorus, reverb and delay, that's pretty much the sound im after- i'm going to get a delay pedal at some point, as i'm not fancying taking my rack stuff out and about; just too much hassle.

How much did both of you pay for yours, and where did you get them from (so i can gauge how much i should save up)?

I've had mine a while, but IIRC I got it from GAK (http://www.gak.co.uk)

A quick search around the internet shows that £150 seems to be the going rate (I'm sure I paid less than that though). Yes, it's double the price of a Boss, but it's also twice as good (I had a CE5 before) :)

Something worth pointing out - you do get an 18v power supply included with it (it uses 18v or 2 batteries). That's very good if your pedal board power supply only has 9v outputs.

Post by: Elliot on July 05, 2007, 07:47:39 PM: Here's my board - the usually nasty DS1 is modded using the DIY Monte Allums Tri-Gain Rectifier mod and the TS7 is also home modded to using the Monte Allums TS808 kit - I also put in a Burr Brown op amp. I also modded the Boss TR2 by clipping the C4 capacitor (which helps no end) and soldering a green LED - which does nothing, except make the pedal look cool when on.

I got mine off eBay - from the US - and it cost me about £85, a lot less than buying from the UK and that was for a brand new unit too, not used in any way.

Why is it so hard to comprehend? I have NO problems with my sound at the moment and thus have no need to try new pickups - regardless of who they're made by, what they look like and how much they cost.

I have a 60's bass version of that teisco in peices somewhere in the work shop!!

I love noodle's viper - the ofset SG shape really does it for me and is a much better design than the gibson version anyway. The camo paint job just looks great!!!

I came up with this shape as a design evolution of the SG and every one calls it a viper but its actually much more compact and horny!!

I have a mate in Jakarta who's a lunatic Ibanez collector and who has a whole set of the "Korina" series that Ibanez did back then: Explorer, V, Moderne. He's got spares of teh Explorer & V whcih he refuses to sell to me, saying in return that he wants my Moderne to make up his second set.

Yeah, whenever I think my GAS is getting out of control I think of him and feel a whole lot better. He once bought so much cr@p in the USA and had it drop shipped to his sister's place that she couldn't use her garage any moer and threatened to put it all out with the garbage. It took a 20 foot container to get it all to Singapore :D

1) I have an Antoria Soundmaster which is probably late 60's, but as that's at my Dad's place in the UK I'm not counting it.

Actually we managed it once with my Mrs standing on a stool balanced atop two Peavey PA cabs, but alas I had to give the PA back to my buddyand we ate in semi darkness for about six months as the bulbs blew one after another :D

As for shelves, well as we have 18 month old twins rampaging around the place, chance would be a fine thing and the higher the better. However we can't as it's a rented apartment. I had to get a clause put in thelease to allow me to hang the guitars up. I'll use polyfiller (or toothpaste :twisted:) to fill the holes when we move out...

A couple of Japanese Charvels. I found the Model 5A NOS in a store in Bangkok in 2002. They'd lost the case though. The Model 3B was in a store here in Kuala Lumpur a couple of years ago, again NOS. That one came with the original case. Haven't had the balls to play them out live yet though. Maybe when I was 30, skinny & in a metal band. Now I'm 47 and playing blues & classic rock with a bunch of other fat old farts? I think not :D

I've still got my beat-up Model 3 from my hair-farmer days as well. I never sell anything, which is probably why I have 38 guitars and an urgent need to thin the herd before we relocate back to Hong Kong next year.

The amps are a McIntyre Bluesmaker 20w with an Avatar 2X12 (Eminience Tonespotters), MiniMat with 1x12 G12M cab and Marshall Silver Jubilee 50 with Ear Candy extension cab and Celestion Sidewinders in both.

interesting. I preferred the klon to the power screamer i tried... i did like the uno mos though (not that i didn't like the PS, just the klon was better i thought). Maybe it is the "extra" you have in the twilight drive?

Hehe, the catagorisation was more down to the fact they wouldn't all fit on the sofa at once :wink:

I'm very pleased with the Warmoth - it sounds great and it's got the nicest neck I've ever played. I'd be happy to put some more pics and info up in a separate thread if anyone is interested?

I've been $%&#ing around with an old Crate GT1200, it doesn't put out such a bad tone once you stick an ISP Decimator and some EQ infront of it... i've re-named it and now it puts out a some clear distortion... you've got to keep the gain low though.

the KVLTO cab is an old peavey cab I got for £40 from a guy who got it from a rental company for bands touring the UK to make up a backline. So who knows who's used it. Anyway... it's got two V60 and two Seventy 80's in it, it does the job... the 2x12 is a Harley Benton with two G12K-85's in it...like a V30 but with slightly more 'Grumpth'. There's now a $%&#ing great hole in one though... my fault.

I rarely use the Orange TT... it doesnt half sound incredible though... it's just not practical for me to keep it. I can't use it live or at practices, the triggered bass drums drown that mother $%&#er out... damn it

Amp be a Vox Cambridge 15 watt hybrid jobbie. Not that great, soon to be upgraded to a Blues Jr. Maybe.

Effects be a Boss Tuner, HM-2 (old and 80s, works for me) and a NYC Big muff.

Na mine is as quiet as a mouse. Even with single coils and the gain all the way up. Not that the gain knob matters, it's the same sound from 0 to 10 anyway.

I think when I first popped in, I was looking at a solid black with white binding finish. Following some discussion, I remembered seeing some of the EVH musicmen that had a similar vibe. I believe it's been coloured twice to bring out the grain.

I found the Powerball a little bit of a one trick pony so decided to part with it, The V3 will probably go soon as well as I have my eye on a Splawn Nitro. (I made no promises regarding amps :twisted: ).

The Tele is the RK model and was one of the guitars I took to Feline as a guide. More for the contours and neck which is superb. I've yet to post the Poison signed Saraceno model samick that is the real bones of the new guitar.

Oh, one thing I do need to know is whether BK cover 7 string Pups? I'd be grateful for any imfo on that

I tried to suggest that guitars are like family and that I want to continue extending that family, but was shot down pretty fast. It's probably a good thing really as everytime I go on ebay these days I can't help but find bargains :D. I might see if I can trade in some of our cats!

I'm looking to get some decent Pups for my Ibanez 7, so any recommendations would be great.

Do you mean do they make them or do they make them with covers on? yes to the former no to the latter.

I saw your Feline on their website and really like it. I have to say I'm most jealous of your Steinberger, I couldn't quite see in the pic but does it have a Transtrem? I'd love one of those, either that or a DeLap 8)

I wanted a ce24 as I like the unfinished neck, but couldn't find any that weren't £1400 or above. The one from the states came in at around half that including the import tax. I know it's not uber cheap, but I definitely think it was worth going that route.

I got the Steinberger from SoundsGreat music in Manchester,UK. Apparently it used to belong to Johnny Marr of The Smiths. I'm not a fan so it was really just for the Leslie West Rutherford ideas. This is one that I may be selling as it seldom gets used these days :( . Oh and I just wanted to know if BK made Pups for 7 strings.

I guess I'm pretty much always using a distorted tone, so I always wonder if I can get the best from my amp at lower volumes.

Your PRS looks stunning top on it 8) .No matter how many I see, I always smile when I see a Whammy on a Les Paul shape guitar. The PRS's look sweet and I also loved the older ESP eclipse models with the Floyd rose bridges.

Got my eye on a Custom 24.... I'll try the necks, not sure between the WT on the Custom24 or a WF on the Singlecut :twisted:

That's an 88 model 4. My first ever guitar. I absolutely love this baby. Plays fantastic, strung with 11s to Eb right now. The pickup is a Duncan Distortion.
The pots are volume and tone. The switches are a three way on/off/on straight to output. The one up from this one is a split. The others do nothing: I hate useless holes ;)
She'll hopefully get a neck single coil sometime soon and assorted electronics.

That's a model 1a, with a model 4's neck. Fantastic guitar and FINALLY finished after having had it in various versions for two years :D Just got a fret dress and I gave her a new nut (graphite) and saddles (graphite as well).
Pickups are a FullShred I modified with an A8 magnet, an Alnico 2 single coil and a CoolRails. I'll swap the neck and middle though I believe. Electronics are a master volume and the neck pickup's volume, the wee toggle is a split for both bridge and neck pickups, so I have two extra parrallel humbucker options as well as two extra virtual single coils.
There's a nice flame to the neck as well :D
I'm not sure what to do about the truss rod cover though as this neck obviously should have a lock behind the nut. So far I don't mind that much though so ah well.

The big grey pedal is a Carl Martin Plexitone prototype :D The SD1 has been modded by yours truly to sound nothing like a standard SD1. The rest of the pedals are fairly standard...

There are lots of different Strat necks though! 7.25", 9.5" or 12" radius, big or small frets, V shapes, C shapes, different nut widths, fat necks, thin necks - something for everyone. Of course, it's bad news if the shape you like is only available on some Custom Shop model...

Yeah I got it for 100 quid from a mate. His brother had dropped it whilst on a train, and the top strap button had snapped off. Bit of polyfilla and some turqoise nail varnish and we're all goo again. The gold was there when I got it, and I haven't got round to changing it ;) Abyway, it's my puppy and I love it :)

I have a model 5 in the exact same colour - yours looks like it has a lot more of the original parts on it though (I've changed so much on mine there's not much or the original left!)

The only things that are not original on her are the strap locks and the trem arm. The 5a on the other hand has had the shitee kicked out of her over the years! :)

I prefer my guitars to have a bit of character!

Damn, no more needs to be said. Also the Studio LP is nice looking, love that dark red wine finish. And those white pickups were the right choice, hands down. Dunno what i think about that luna though... :?

Yeah I really like white pickups in the dark red guitar. It's quite unusual, but it works. I also like how the finish of it goes darker with time. I found the Raines on ebay and it was pretty much an impulse buy. It does have a few flaws (overfinished, pretty bad high fret access), but overall it's a very good and very unique guitar.

At the moment there's a greco LP, and edwards LP, an Ibanez S Prestige, some ibanez bass guitar with an ashdown amp, a fender strat, matamp minimat, peavey classic 50/50 poweramp, an analogman sd1/808, and a Fulltone fat boost knocking about, and most of it really isn't up to much. i love all of it (apart from the matamp), but a lot of it's not getting much use and i REALLY want a tele and some more BKPs, lol...

...but then again i chang my mind about what i want all the time, and i know i'd regret getting rid of things, so i'll let it lie. Usually if crave something for more than a year i know it's the right thing to do.

If pickups were drugs, BKP's would be the high-quality cocaine cut with some top-shelf heroin and a dash of extacy - everything you want and more... and an orgasm... but the Lace Sensors are just straight up coke. None of that erection-inspiring mojo. Just the pure stuff.

Hahaha, that's a much better description of pickups than you get normally, bravo.

I luuuuuurve the Red/Silver/Blue trio in my 57 Reissue Jap Strat... it's as clean as the shower then as dirty as my boxers at the stomp of a button.

Absolutely not ever. I love that guitar so much.
It's the same model as Dave's a couple of pages back, a cheap lite ash, but it plays and sounds superb. They are still avaliable to buy new.

sorry mate, I wasn't really clear, the scratch plate is a replacement from all-parts I think. It's routed H-S-H from the factory so no other mods required.

:D It comes as SSS from the factory but if you take off the pickguard it's routed out to take HSH. Hope that clear it up

The Pearls probably getting MQs tho because I dont really need 2 guitars that do a similar LP tone. I really like this Pearl now, the neck on my epiphone feels really flat and thin in comparison now. Not sure which I prefer - the epi still plays better for lead but the Pearl feels so right for rhythm :D Maybe a setup will make the Pearl a good lead player.

I think once you you get used to bigger necks you'll never want to go back to skinny ones. Well that's my experience, anyway, FWIW! :wink:

Ahh i'd kill for that rig. Its an awesome rig. It would a great shame if you were not to offer your talents as a service for people suffering from HUGE setup times and hum and such. And you coudl make like a logo to stick on all your setups, "designed and programmed by mark ....". :)

Maybe. I dont play lead quite so easily on the Pearl but I dont know if thats a setup issue or the neck thickness/radius (Epiphones is slightly flatter).

The Thunder hasn't been plugged in since I got the Invader and 4x12 on Friday when I was a/bing them, so I'm selling it to a mate of mine for £350. That'll pay for the rack and MIDI controlled pedal looper/router. Can't wait to get them now :D

Here we have.... My Starfield SVA-1 head plugged into an old 70's 4x12 with Greenbacks which i play my Jap Tokai SG into. As for extra junk i have a violin bow, a Jim Dunlop Wah which i painted blue, a Boss CE-2 chorus and an Ibanez TS-9 which i don't use at all.

I'm entirely happy with my amp and cab, I need to swap out the pickups on my SG, im very undecided on what i want (going between a set of stormy mondays, a SD Custom Custom and A2 Pros and Riff Raffs and oh loads of other stuff...), but as soon as i get cash in from my new job or selling my SZ ill get some. I want to pick up an original early Ibanez RG550 and a Fender Tele.

My Oldest guitar, currently the only one with a bkp in it (The Mule) This was a white Squire Strat. I took the guitar, and painted it. It plays like a dream! It may be a Squire, but it plays better them some fenders I've tried.

Finally, my amp. It's an Ampeg V-4 I believe it's a 73. I love this amp. it has the most beautiful clean tone a guitarist could ask for, more power then I'll ever need, and when you drive the tubes, it could bring a tear to your eye.

Here we have.... My Starfield SVA-1 head plugged into an old 70's 4x12 with Greenbacks which i play my Jap Tokai SG into. As for extra junk i have a violin bow, a Jim Dunlop Wah which i painted blue, a Boss CE-2 chorus and an Ibanez TS-9 which i don't use at all.

I'm entirely happy with my amp and cab, I need to swap out the pickups on my SG, im very undecided on what i want (going between a set of stormy mondays, a SD Custom Custom and A2 Pros and Riff Raffs and oh loads of other stuff...), but as soon as i get cash in from my new job or selling my SZ ill get some. I want to pick up an original early Ibanez RG550 and a Fender Tele.

So is that the head version then yeah?

I'm still very undecided as to what amp to get.. Need to do it fast for when the bands gigging.

It's an odd mix aint it ;P

With the gain up it can do a hot overdrive but no high gain distortion, I dont set the amp's gain any higher than a really hot and spikey breakup, hence the pedal on top of the amp. The pedal is really fun it is a Uberschall/Dual recto in a box, it gets frightningly close.

I'm saving for a high gain amp to run in stereo with it, but most of the high gain amps I have tried are really compressed and that's not a sound I really want, I have yet to try the engl invader.

The pickguard is sprayed black. And it hasn't got clear over it. The other guitars are my Indie Signature, and my Ibanez RG08LTD. My other RG is currently in the garage undergoing a respray and stuff.

And also my AD30VT which I hope to sell and a BOSS GT8 under the poster.

When I was spraying them, the paint stayed around the edges, instead of filling up the letters, so it was a sort of light blue outlining of the letters which I was thought was pretty cool.

What books do you have your TC electronics system standing on? Can't quite make it out from the picture!

Yup, exactly. Normally the processor is mounted underneath the controller. It also has all of the connections for inputs/outputs/bypass loops, meaning that you can have a fully MIDI-switchable setup without the need for a rack should you wish. It's that that I call the brain. I've chosen to rackmount it meaning I can keep all annoying cabling and routing out of the way, while just running a single cable to the pedalboard. Makes everything very neat and tidy out front :) (The "brain" is the silver unit in the middle rack space)

Hey mate, yeah the Orange cab is brilliant. It's got a lovely meaty chunky sound to it, that really seems to preserve the best things about V30s and sort out the overbearing honky mids and piercing highs that you sometimes get from V30 cabs. It's also very nice and tight and articulate.
Only problem is that they weigh a ton! Their strange proportions, really, really heavy duty construction, and no casters mean they can be a real b*tch to carry around.

Still, definitely worth checking out, I know of several people swapping to them from Mesa cabs.

Yeah, well remembered! I sent it back to get a forearm shelf cut in it: the flat top looked good, but didnt agree with me totally, playing wise (when picking very fast, it lifted my arm to an odd angle). I got it finished transparent black in the process :twisted:

When I bought mine the guy in the shop said that Orange avoid using casters and put solid wood runners on the bottom to transmit sound into the floor, so when playing on a stage it gives just that little bit more.

I bet the people in the flat below me really appriciate that particular design feature :twisted:

I really really like the little rock, for a 4W nominal output amp it really packs a punch, and the cleans are absolutely glorious, so much so that I might favour it over the GT1 for recording clean sounds.

The drive is a bit dry, to really get it to sing you have to crank the master and cook the valves, but I find that if I want to play with smooth, driven tones at lower volumes I can do that using my PUP booster.

I have played a Tiny Terror and I'd say that for higher gain stuff, and in terms of volume capabilities it offers more versatility, but for cleans, and just because Matamp offers a certain character and has an inherent class and feel that I like in the tone, I'd go for the latter. Sadly, they're no longer in production, but if anything the Minimat II offers more versatility, and I have to say looks a lot cooler too!

* Martin went to the factory for a chat, explained what his amp company was about, and Jeff was so impressed he hired him on the spot as a contactor for Matamp 8)

* Martin now builds and designs amps for Matamp, along with another builder they've taken on recently

It's not my cup of tea, although I wasn't going to say so.
Despite the looks, I'd bet a lot that it plays and sounds incredible.

EDIT: Lew, I actually think it'd be pretty cool with a black pickguard.
(as you can see I couldn't get the colour quite right. It's pretty damn complex!)

You have to b careful that the string lengths behind the nut going to the machinehead are not the same as any fretted note otherwise you can get adrone note that rings when you dont want it to

I made a great guitar years ago that did just that and it was a D note which was most inconvenient at times although very cool when soloing in that key

If you measure the length of the string behind the nut to where it hits the headstock you can copy that distance from the bridge saddle to the imaginary fret on the same string and predict which overtone you will get.
Because the tension on the string will be the same right along its length - it will be entirely proportional
on a normal headstock it is the other way round and the ringing note will sound like a high harmonic rather than a fundamental note

That's interesting to know. Why is it so much more noticeable on some guitars than others? Is it simply that the distance you described doesn't match up to a harmonic? And does the string break angle over the nut affect how loudly it rings out?

I screwed up a tremolo system trying to do that to the springs behind :oblocked now anyway, hate them...

But is that the simular in that on some guitars (such as yours I'd assume without that band on it) you can do that thing Matt Bellamy does where you pick behind the headstock and it makes them mental screaming noise?

Yeah it looks way better with the black pickguard and I bet it plays really well too.

Wow that sounds pretty good! Still haven't gone the direct route. But I did some IRs of my Bogner Cab for Clawfinger, and now these seem pretty popular within the Axe community. Actually Cliff asked me to send him the IRs for possible inclusion in the future - I would feel quite honoured.

I just need that thump I get from a real guitar cab moving air ... don't you miss it when going DI?

This gear gets me the tones that put a huge smile on m face. I actually don't really feel the need to add anything extra. It's going to be a strict "one in, one out" policy on gear from now on. Probably.

Cheers! The Wah is a Teese Wizard .... excellent sweep and was designed to work better with humbuckers, great pedal.

Thanks, it's a 3000. Build quality of these surpasses most guitars I've ever seen... they are quite heavy though. I did compare it with some LP customs... the '57 RI I had was lighter (it was an awesome guitar) but both my mates customs were much heavier. The action and tuning stability is superb... my sons is the same but mint condition.

Yes indeedy. It's probably morally wrong to have a hi-fi amplifier that puts out 15 times as much oomph as my most powerful guitar amp but that's the way it is. Sorry everyone.

I should have gone for a set of 90/91. The 91/92 is a tad too hot for my taste. Still it's better than stock for sure!

I'm currently on a pedal building thing at the moment. I've got a TS-808 clone completed and a MkII Professional Tonebender in the works. Also a valve boost and probably a Phase90 clone after that. It's quite an addictive hobby!

Triamp is cool. Sounds good and has tonz of features. But I don't like the looks and I found Amp3 a bit too modern for my tastes.

What I'm getting? Let's say I stick with my preference for German designed multi channels :lol:

Haha, I thought the damage had a familiar appearance. Back in my chinchilla-keeping days, one of mine managed to go through the skirting board, into the wall and ended up under the floorboards; at the insistence of my ex-wife, I had to punch an eight-inch-wide hole in the wall so I could coax the little sod back out. They're amazingly destructive, aren't they?

Beautiful Strat too, LPB is one of those colours I think always looks "right".

Post by: Keven on January 23, 2010, 11:17:11 PM: This is my home rig, all optimized for tube tone at low volume, it works fine, but i still would love to crank it up alot more, i'm a very quiet guy at home, but very loud at rehearsals. both godin's are sadly still fitted with dimarzios but the 7 string is loaded with a black dog and mule set. killer!

the Bat guitar, as i call it, was originally brown like its counter part, with a rout for HSS. i got the new shape cut by someone different than the first one, (the godin models are usually LP style) and the last touch of varnish came out shoddy, it's always so dirty :(. the epi is heavily modded with a new OT and a tone stack. and an external gain control so the ADA mp1 doesn't drive the input preamp tube crazy all of a sudden. the CS-3 and BD-2 and SD-1 are all allums modded, fun little things, except the cs-3.. i kinda regret this purchase, even modded. compressors aren't for me! I'll sell it to the bass player :D

PS, don't mind the traynor sticker on the epi cab. i got a cab without the Epi logo and there were holes to cover :?

guitar -> sonic research turbo-tuner (simply the best tuner i ever had, once i understood how the weird strobo leds worked!) -> tonerider american overdrive (i used it to boost my amp but now i use it to have a crunch channel, and it's awesome) -> ISP decimator (thanks to MDV's advice... it doesn't anything to tone and dynamics... just reduces heavily unwanted noise and feedback) -> ENGL Fireball 100 (with the most stupid EQ you could imagine... everything at 1 o clock + low boost on) -> TC electronic G-sharp in FX loop (i discovered i can perfectly live with chorus + reverb on leads and cleans and delay + reverb on solos, so i don't need more complex multieffect units) -> Peavey "el cheapo" 2x12 cab (i ignore what kind of speakers lurk inside it and i don't care... it's middy and reasonably tight, and i like it!)

the hardest thing is to get a good (i know it won't ever be GREAT) rhythm sound and a lead tone that fits my playing style with a single setting, and currently i'm really happy with my rig... amp and fx GAS is temporarily tamed... but i'm feeling more and more attracted to 4x12 cabs, i have to say... a 2x15 + my 2x12 is a fascinating option too!

I call this my sound design and writing rig because its at my girlfriends house. I live in Toronto Canada but she lives in Cleveland USA and crossing the border with a lot of gear is a pain so I built this rig to keep myself busy while she's at work, I really have to stay off Craigslist for a while. Of course I've met a number of cool blokes here and now have somewhere to jam when I'm in town so I expect to see the rig change.
