Title: Customs and handling to the UK
Post by: Woogie on June 22, 2007, 04:46:02 PM
Would it cost a fortune to get a Ceriatone Plexi into the UK?

I haven't bought such a thing from abroad so any info would be great.

Cheers

When I imported a few ESP's it cost me 17.5% VAT plus duty of about 3%.

You'd need to phone customs to find out what classification the amp would be i.e. electronics goods as custom duties vary.

I've bought amps from the US and Canada before - for example if you bought an amp for $1000 US, customs would be around £150.

Expect to pay an additional
5-9% duty on the whole bill
plus 17.5% vat on top of that
Plus maybe a handling fee - how much depends who it is importing it (as far as carrier goes)

And the "gift" thing doesnt wash very often with customs
How many people get sent guitars and amps as a gift from abroad in all seriousness. Maybe they cant be arsed to follow it up though.

It certainly didn't work for me! With best in intentions (the bar-stewards) they marked up the value for insurance purposes when i ordered my esp - so it cost me even more - even though it was marked gift - that never works unless the value is under £100.

Values for customs vary from item to item but just to be safe I always allow 30% of the total value of the item + postage. That way you're pretty much covered regardless of what customs try to categorise the goods as.

The ceriatone could come to alot of money then!!

Does anyone know much about the Laney GH100TI?? My original choice was going to be a GH50/100L but the Iommi head seems more raw.

The Ceriatones look great and all the reviews are very positive

I think that for a point to point wired Marshall type they are the best value- unless you stumble upon a bargain

The Marshall sound is very different to the laney one to my ears and I seem to prefer the Marshall sound
