Title: Just got back from seeing Transformers the movie
Post by: Jp. on June 27, 2007, 11:39:55 AM
I won tickets to the state premier of the movie, so I take one of my old mates who is about the same age as me and head along.

I must note before I express any opinions on this movie that people must bear in mind I am the absolute target audience for this movie. I was a Child who watched this sort of cartoon in 1984 when the original series came out. For those who were the 6-10 years of age in the '84 to '88 period you probably will relate to this.

This is without a doubt the best action movie I've seen since the last Bond film. :!:  let me do that again, just for good measure " :!: "

To see my childhood hero's recreated in today's technology was such a buzz I couldnt really describe it. It is done quite seriously and with the attention to detail that any fan would expect.

There are definately discrepencies between the original show and this but hey who cares it was a cartoon after all. I was just glad to see a action flick rather than a kiddies movie. I wont give to much away about the plotline as well..... there isnt any plot worth following. Good guy meets bad guy and shoot'em-up ensues.

The only downside to the whole night was entering the cinema with a few minutes to spare before showtime. Taking the time to scan the audience I couldnt help but notice an entire room full of overwieght 30 year old nerds.

I couldnt possibly be one of them, could I? Quick mental check "I'm at a Transformers movie premier and I'll probably post the experience on the net when I get home"   ...... Oh dear.

Anyway, all those too young to remember the original series might not like it. Those too old to get into the original series probably wont get it. But for those lucky few. You just might get a real kick outta this movie.

yeah, i was a kid in the 80's so i will see it as soon as possible.   I really aint gonna get fussy if its not exactly like the originals, its only when i rewatched the original movie a few years ago that i was actually able to follow what was going on, well at least i think i followed it - i loved it as a kid but i cant claim to have understood it!

Here they come
These gods of steel
Megatron
Devouring what's concealed

Speed of death
Crossfired they stare
Final breath
From vaporizing glares

cool can't wait to see this. The original will take some beating tho I saw it not long ago, totally cheesy and full of 80s metal :D

All we need now are some re-makes or sequals to classic 80s cheesy movies. Jim Hensons son is making a Dark Crystal 2 and depending on the success of that the will make Labyrinth 2!!! I really miss those puppets they had so much character!

I honestly didnt pay much attention to the soundtrack. Visually I was kept so busy I couldnt keep up. This is a good thing as I often find films like this I can then enjoy for a second, third time etc.

I find pleasure in the details of a film. ie as a fan I was expecting Optimus to have a certain look. when he first arrives in the plotline he has a prper mouth and speaks with articulated lips. "Thats no good" I thought. Then later when he goes into battle he engaged a face shield and visually completes the image of what a fan would expect.

Detail with purpose and meaning. I really get into directors who can do this.

Matrix number 1 was a good example. when Neo is dragged into the car with Switch and Trinity and inspected for a "tracer program". Switch refers to Neo as a "Copper top". A reference that doesnt become clear until you see the whole plot unfold and watch the movie a second time.

What I will say about this movie is I will be pulling the money out of my pocket to see it again.

grawww!!!! that was amazing!!!! me an some of th boys went down to th local cinema on saturday with nothin to do before resigining ourselves to th nearest bar for th evening but the bloody previews of Transformers was on!!!!so we went an watched it before headin to th nearest bar

Optimus is a badass.

that movies awesome, its defo different fromt h cheesey original, but it makes it beeter as a stand alone movie you cant really compare it to th funky flare wearing transformers of old.
aleast they didnt really *manga* them up too much.

go see it before anything else!!!even th simpsons movie is likely to pale in comparasion

It's a good movie to watch. Don't expect any complicated story lines but there's good action and amazing computer animation.

And Barricade rules!

they take a while to kick in, but essentially it's the trailer that was at the beginning of the transformers movie for a monster film with no name

Went to see it lastnight and its easily the best film in the past 4 years I would say. I could even go out on a limb and say its better than LOTR. I never really got into that though. The simpsons will probably look cr@p in comparison to this, but Rush Hour 3 looks great.

Megatron kicked arse

"you wanna piece of me huh huh?"

"no, I'll have two"

Its another thing thats now on my to get list: Ps3, MGS4 and Transformers on Blu-Ray.

I shall go and see it again I think

Considering they used an A list composer, I thought the music was terrible.
