Tonight is your last official chance to choke to death on other peoples smoke in pubs and bars - make the most of it!!!

Me? I'm looking forward to going out more once the ban come into play.
I just prefer it to be non smoky (as do many smokers)

I am all for the smoking ban in public places but i ws a bit surprised when i recieved some tickets for a gig at nottingham arena.

Basically there was a leaflet reinforcing the smoking ban, blah, blah, blah.   Then at the bottom it said that there would be no re-entry for anyone that left the venue during the gig!  Its gonna take heavy smokers a while to adjust to the new situation and i cant help thinking this is a little harsh.

I mostly only smoke when i am out so it will help me cut out no end of cigarettes

^ That is total BS. They tried pulling that sh!t here in NYC, too, but ultimately the clubs had to cave in to public demand and allow re-entry for smokers. Most venues have a roped off area outide for smokers now. I am not a smoker (quite the opposite, in fact) but found this 'rule' to be greedy and excessive!! If ppl want to go outside, put another nail in the coffin, and then come back in, WHO CARES?!

+1, i am a non smoker (apart from the odd celebratory cigar ) and think it's pretty harsh to stop someone for going out for a fag and not being let back in.

yeah. i'm all in favour of the smoking ban as i don't smoke and don't like the smell, but that seems extremely excessive. Could cause a backlash too, i.e. a petition to allow smoking indoors again or something.

Yippee its here!  Great, I went to the Jack Horner in Tottenham Court Road the other day and there were 6 Japanese students chain smokiing (they all literally had 1 packet each in 2 hours).  I was ill for days: but no longer, ha ha.

I am pleased too that I have played my last gig in a smoke filled environment and that my gear will no longer be stinking of stale smoke. I think the refusal to allow them to re enter is not right however.

^ yeah, stopping them from smoking inside can be argued as protecting the health and enjoyment of non-smokers and employees.

Stopping them from returning if they go outside sounds like a nanny state thing trying to stop them from smoking altogether. or else just trying to discourage smokers. Which as 38'th says, isn't right.

:drink:

I think its just gonna make people have a crafty fag inside the venues rather than risk not being allowed back in.

I tend to find i smoke more at gigs because of the waiting between bands with nothing to do,  although we should all be able to go a few hours without a fag - its the kind of situation that really makes you want one!

the whole rule about not being allowed back in at gigs- i've never heard of that targeting smokers specifically...

i've been to loads of gigs where the venue just doesn't let people in full stop after they've left... smoker or not.

^ yeah, i know, but smokers are more than likely going to be the ones to want to leave, lol. I'm certainly not suggesting that just smokers be allowed out. if you have a ticket, you should be allowed back in. if you feel ill or something (hey, it could happen!) you might need to go out for some air.

^funnily enough that was what happened to me recently- at a gig in london after the first two bands i felt extremely dehydrated... but wasn't allowed out/in again just because that was policy.

^ i assume they don't allow it because if they did they'd have everyone running in and out, but yeah, it seems extreme, especially if you have a good reason.

when you go to see a show they let you out for a fag in the interval, cant see why it wouldbe that much of a problem to just stamp hands or something and let people come and go as they please

the not-letting-people-in-again deal is frickin stupid. they give you a stamp (about which a friend threw a hissy fit over.. heh.) or a handband.
