How do you know if these people will work together in a band?
You can put the best musicians together but if it doesn't click, the band will suck.

Does the ill-fated Tracii Guns/Michael Schenker super group, Contraband, ring any bells with anyone? Terrible!!

:drink:
and of course my super-group would work out. EVH is well-known not to get into feuds.

Based on my favourite music at the moment, my dream band would be:
Lead vox: Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins)
Lead guitar, keyboards: Vini Reilly (The Durutti Column)
Rhythm guitar, six-string bass, vox: Robert Smith (The Cure)
12-string guitar, vox: Miki Berenyi (Lush)
Bass guitar: Peter Hook (New Order)
Drums: Jerome Deupree (Morphine)
Though as a "what if" experiment, I would love to have heard what Dio could have sounded like with a backing band consisting of Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake and Don Airey.

Spoil-sport!

 When I saw this topic title, my first thought was "Paul Rodgers on vocals!!! - I bet noone picks him though, he's not metal enough for most of the people round here"...Shows what I know :P
Seriously though, He's awesome - even to this day (well maybe not this day, but last July he was great :D )

Guitar 1: Guthrie Govan
Guitar 2: Andy Timmons
Bass: Tony Levin
Drums: Mike Mangini
Vox: Freddy Mercury

I was thinking about a dream band from the ranks of those who have gone to the great stadium in the Sky.
John Lennon- Vocals Guitar
Jimi Hendrix-Lead Guitar
Ronnie Lane-Bass Guitar
Keith Moon -Drums
Billy Preston-keyboards
t'would probably sound a mess but hey, it is a fantasy.
-
Vox: Freddy Mercury
I'm gonna be very controversial here, so those of a nervous disposition may want to look away now:
Up until last year I would've said the same thing, but then I saw Queen & Paul Rodgers - And Paul's voice (IMO) was so much better...
-
OK, for a dream lineup that probably wouldn't really work:
Vocals: the young Ronnie Dio (circa 1977)
Guitar: Michael Schenker
Keyboards/Guitar: Ken Hensley
Bass: John Entwistle
Drums: Ian Paice
Here's one I'd really like to hear - Clutch plus guests. For bluesy, stonerish jam rock I think this lot might actually work:
Vocals: John Garcia
Lead Guitar: Warren Haynes
Guitar: Tim Sult
Bass: Dan Maines
Drums: Jean-Paul Gaster
Vocals, lyrics and inspiration: Neil Fallon
-
Vocals: John Garcia
Does he have anything to do with Jerry Garcia?
here's my ultimate slightly progressive thrash/death metal band: :P
Vocals: Chuck Billy
Guitar: Alex Skolnick
Guitar & Vocals: Mille Petrozza
Bass: Steve DiGiorgio
Drums: Yanic Bercier
damn that would kick some serious ass
-
Vocals: John Garcia
Does he have anything to do with Jerry Garcia?
Not AFAIK. Singer with the mighty Kyuss and Unida.

-

I'd be happy if you replaced Michael Amott in Arch Enemy, 'cause then he could spend all his time on Spiritual Beggars. :D

My dream band is this:
Dave Ghrol: Drums
John Paul Jones: Bass
Frank Zappa: Lead Guitar
Warren Cuccurullo: Rhythm Guitar
David Bowie: Vocals
Beehoven: Piano
John Coltrane: Tenor Saxaphone
Miles Davis: Trumpet
some of them are dead, and all were and still are true genius!
