Title: Creating a stack which ohms do i go for etc etc
Post by: MrPring on July 04, 2007, 10:28:48 AM
Right guys the title was a wee bit misleading there.
Basically ive never used a seperate head and cab/s.
Ive always been a combo guy.

I have 2 cabs that i want to combine to make a stack.
Both are 8 ohms.
On the back of my amp (an old jcm 800) i can select 4,8 or 16 ohms.
Im really after some advice on what to select.
The cab im using for the bottom only has one 1/4 inch socket on it whereas the one im using for the top half has 2 or 1 in and 1 out i think.
Anyways HELP!!!
 :D

Thanks

Plug both cabs directly into the head.  I'm assuming you have two speaker out sockets here.  The cabs will then be running in parallel and you'll need to select 4ohms output.

Job done!

great thanks mate
thats what confused me. I thought with 2 8ohm cabs i'd need to switch to 16ohms on the back of the amp!

Nope, they're wired in parallel so you half the overall impedance.
